Hi,
I am thinking about upgrading my server to PHP 5 from 4. I wanted to make sure what are some of the things that might happen if i do migrate to this. Has anyone has such an experience and what problems might arise?
Thanks,
P@

I heard it is pretty smooth. Just make sure your panel supports it (hsphere for example needs to be the latest)

No problem whatsoever, been using PHP5 for development since 5.0.4. I just turn on the ZE1 compatability for legacy PHP4 and it seem to be pretty smooth, haven't had an application I use break yet.

ok I guess I'll be upgrading then. But im not exactly sure how I can do this.
Do I just submit a ticket to my dedicated server techs and have them upgrade it for me? Or do I have to figure it out myself?
I have access to the WHM section on port 2086 of my server. Is it done through there or through shell access?
And do i need to uninstall php 4 before upgrading?
Thanks,
P@

If you're running cPanel you can use the apacheupdate script to do this for you.
WHM > Software > Apache Update > select PHP 5.1.6 + any optional modules you want > click Start Build

yes, the process is fairly simple if using cpanel.
