Does anyone on the board host with microworld.com or know of their reputation? I recently emailed and recieved this response to my q's:

"We don't provide URL's to customers web sites for confidentiality reasons.

We run Linux, on a Dual PIII 550Mhz Server with 512MB of RAM and 160GB RAID 5
Array.

We currently have a new T1 to the Internet through Sprint, but we are also
working on a wireless backbone in our area that will connect us to multiple
ISP's and their T1's.

We are growing quickly and working on 10-100Mbit connectivity solutions."

I also put a url they host on a server check service and got the result shown in this link:

http://scp.netmechanic.com/reports/032193807028181.htm

A T1 connection sounded pretty weak compared with most hosting companies, although their site got good ratings from the server check. My website is very small(<5mb) and is simply a storefront with payment through paypal, so my bandwidth requirements aren't too huge. I was thinking of going with their free plan, or if I got negative responses from yall, I would go with below10host.com. Any comments would be great.

Thanks

Their website site says "Currently Hosting 2652 Domains." There is no way they're running that many sites off a T1. (Of course it says "domains" and not "websites," so they could all be Under Construction pages. Or maybe 1 website with 2651 aliases?)

If you're getting a free website there's not much harm in giving them a try (although I've heard of some hosts stealing content--make sure you read the TOS/AUP carefully). They also advertise unlimited data transfer, which is usually a wolf in sheep's clothing. I would proceed with caution if you're putting up a website that you rely on for income.

After prepaying for one year of hosting, my domain alternapop.com, now automatically redirects to Microworld.com's site two months into my contract. This is happening for no reason at all. They haven't returned numerous calls and emails. I've disputed the charges to my credit card. The guy who runs it, judd ware, will screw you out of hits. search dejanews for more info! I'm not alone...

I've been using them for about a year for one of my sites with no glitches. In fact, I've very happy with them. They don't offer PHP, mySQL, and the other good stuff, but for a plain html web site, they're very good. I don't remember them ever being down, and response time is good (both for the web site itself and for ftp). I often recommend them to others.
