View Full Version : Webloggers
I am in need of some advice for a church website. I am looking for a good, easy to configure program that would allow the minister to post daily devotions to a web page inside of the website without having to upload files everyday he typed in a devotion. I had someone try to install newspro but kept getting errors. Then I tried to experiment with cafelog and am having a time trying to configure it to look like the rest of the website. I thought about trying postnuke but I don't need all that stuff in the side columns or anything. I am basically needing the program to allow the minister to log in, type his devotion and hit a button, submit or something, then it shows up on a specified page. I also need it very simple. Anyone have any input they can offer? Thanks.

I use Greymatter (http://www.noahgrey.com/greysoft/) on my personal hompage and it works great. The install is really easy if you know all of your local paths. I takes a little bit of HTML knowlegde to get things looking decent, but other than that it's really simple. The program supports a lot of cool features archiving, search, multiple users and a ton more.
mwatkins 06-16-2002, 07:26 PM Or, for the no-tech approach (on the host computer - all you need is FTP) - http://userland.com - home of Radio.
Its a local install on a PC, and streams the changes to the public server using FTP. They include webspace (which you can't put a domain pointed to) but you can direct the FTP target anywhere.
34$ annually if I recall.
Another widely used blogging system is Moveable Type:

EasyCMS is pretty nice one as well:

If you need more, PM me - I compiled a text file with a big list of weblog/light CMS systems awhile back.

Website Rob 06-17-2002, 01:45 AM If the change is going to be manually done everyday, why not use a FTP program that provides for online editing? Don't know of any off-hand, but it seems to be the easiest method for this situation.
akashik 06-17-2002, 04:22 AM do a search for 'empower 2001' It's dead easy to install and the interface allows even the most techophobic person just type what they need into whichever page(s) you specify. I've installed it for a few design clients and they've always liked it.

gimpmaster 06-17-2002, 09:57 AM If you would like I could code you up something pretty fast and easy to use in PHP.
E-Mail me at gimpinmaster@hotmail.com
Or maybe AIM at gimpmasterrm2k
Here's a few :D more I thought were at least interesting at the time of compiling them into a list a few months back:

Grace 06-17-2002, 08:38 PM I use for my own sites:
Greymatter - http://www.noahgrey.com/greysoft/
MovableType - http://www.movabletype.org
b2/cafelog - http://www.cafelog.com
Hmmm. Once you get the hang of the codes of b2 I think it is fairly simple to customize it to integrate it to your own layout.
If you want I could help in configuring it.
I could also help to install MovableType or Greymatter, of course for free, just email me at starkfrenzyATyahoo.com if you want. Though I think b2 is already an excellent choice for your needs!
