I have a dedicated account with Ventures Online and they are good overall but after reading some threads here it seems I pay a lot more than some. Is it that you get what you pay for? I know VO has a solid reputation and in my one year there things have been great as far as uptime. I'm not enamoured with their support system but they are solid overall.

I forget the shell command to run to get the exact specs of the server but I am on the "old" dedicated 4 that VO used to have with an extra 256 mg of ram to get me to 768. The only additional item I have is daily backups.

I pay $645/month, is this outrageous compared to what else is out there? I'm interested in comparable quality as I mentioned VO is reliable and I'm not interested in trying to get the bill down to zero and be with someone unreliable and unprofessional.

Also my MRTG stats as of right now say 35 gigs out and 14 in if that helps.

Have you seen the prices of their newest dedicated servers? I think $645 is a lot more than what they're offering now.

Since you seem happy with VO then you should stick with them. Prices have come down a bit and it shouldn't be much hassle to move to a newer server (contract permitting)

If your minimum contract term has expired simply purchase a new dedicated server from them, it will most likely be lower priced yet with better specification due to obvious reason. Transfer the files/sites etc.. over to the new server and then cancel the old one. That's how I would do it. Otherwise re-negiotate your current contract. Play hard-ball. ;)

VO...well, if your server with VO is critical to your websites and business, I suggest you stay with them..cause I was with them for over a year and EXCELLENT support.

Please bear in mind that VO is offering managed dedicated server, which justifies the price they're offering which is a little higher than those who offers minimal managed dedicated server.

It all depends on how critical is the server to you.

Of course there're other cheaper providers out there but mostly offering unmanaged servers....i think you just need to get this cleared out.

Totally agree + you can negotiate quite a good deal as you are their customer already and you can tell them that you got other offer etc... If you receive good service then by all means STAY! :)
