They charge that for MS SQL, not MySQL.

If you want a mysql daemon and use Debian; apt-get install mysql-server

You can run vBulletin or phpbb on MySQL. I am skeptical that MySQL is charged $280, I believe it's MSSQL too.

Just get the server with / out control panel and you should be able to run forums without any issues.

Ok I am a bit confused how the traffic shaping is done because a 10 mbps line will allow a max of 3.3 TB per month if it is on full usage 24/7 so how can we take a total of 4 TB? Or is this a 100 mbps line with a 12.5 mbps cap? Or do you allow some amount of bursting occasionaly?

Correct me if I'm wrong, it would be a 10mbit full-duplex connection, which each direction (in and out) has 10Mbit to push.

Well if want to count the back and forth then its about 6 days ago (payment made)...but seriously it has been well over 4 days and still counting since everything was confirmed and server ordered with LT...anyways, im hopeful it will deployed soon like you said. (within 12 hours)

I ordered a server on Oct 26th and paid right away. Right now, it's the 29th and I haven't received my server. I guess it's okay, since it's the weekend, no one work anyways... wait, what am I talking about, I got 2 invoices from you guys and one of them was sent on Saturday.

You guys are quick on asking money, even before I get my server. I paid a full month fee and then you sent me a bill for Oct 27 to the end of the month. It's reasonable if I actually got my server on the 27th. But I don't think you guys will deliver my server until Monday, Oct 30th. So, what's up? Quick on charging, slow on delpoying?

I'm sorry to hear your grumbles and we intend to work with LT in deploying servers sooner and apparently LT is beefing up that.

Our invoices are generated automatically by end of the month (pre-notification). We work on pro-rated system, which you would be credited for the unused days of Oct to Nov.

Kindly email us at sales@server4sale.com to have a status check up. It is unfortunately the deployment of servers are beyond our control, nevertheless, you have our word that we would be following up with LT persistently until it gets online and delivered to you.

I'm sorry, but I have to say, the price initially is good. But as soon as you desire some kind of data redundancy like raid 1, the price skyrockets. So a $240 deal with cpanel, a second drive, and raid card for second drive goes to $360. Didn't see an option for a backup drive but I imagine that puts the price over $400/mo. Correct me if I'm wrong. Like buying a car and getting a quote of 300/mo, with seatbelts and air bag 550/mo.

If you are talking about LT, RAID-1 is extra $25/mo, a hdd is roughly $20-40/mo. So if you are looking at about $330/mo (including another backup drive).

Yes, unfortunately I will probably cancel some of the servers I have with them because of this.

I do not need those additional services they have added on.

I'll admit I don't know much about this whole (Layeredtech?) saga. But if the bandwidth is nice and quick, and the service is, and the machines are decent whats $20-$30 bucks? Are the margins that tight? Most businesses run on about 10% net profit, and thats a generous estimate. It's probably more like 5%. A server full of hosting clients @ $250/mo rental cost brings in over $1000 without even trying. I don't get what the big scandal is about a little bump in price. Except the scandal that so many fell for it.

If your provider isn't making money, pretty soon thats going to trickle down to you. If they get greedy supply/demand will rectify that situation on its own.

You have to give good consideration to how much your provider is making. I wouldn't lease a server if by my own calculations the provider wasn't getting a profit I felt would sustain my own service in the long term. These upstart data centers (and hosts) come into WHM with lower than sustainable prices, everybody jumps on board and its one big love fest for 12 months until the bubble bursts. Who's next up? There's gotta be a data center waiting in the wings ready to host the next big love fest.

Its not just the money for me (as you are right whats an extra $60 or so?, i have 4 servers with them), its more the whole principle of the situation.

When leasing a server, im used to locked in prices. Not out of the blue bump ups in price.

Thats on top of the fact I do not need the extra services they offer as their justification for the increase.
