Chicken-

How about dedicating a "ripped site" topic forum to move all this swag, and improve the signal to noise ratio of WHT. I envision it nestled comfortably between Website Reviews and the advertising forums.

Jake

BTW- has anyone noticed that webhostingtalk looks suspiciously like http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/index.php?!?!

you should move this to the site suggestions/comments forum.

good idea Jake,

It would probably deter rippers quite a bit if there was a forum dedicated to this!

Yeah, and for some reason, those 2 sites r the same (even the copyright notice down the bottom that says "Copyright ©2000, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.").

I think the ripped off forum should be a subforum of this. That would cause everyone to see it when they log in, and when they open this forum, and would be a good defferent of posts (until they realize 98% of us aren't listening/don't givea hoot)

Every now and then, a post actually makes me grin really widely. This is today's winner, heh.

Re: Forum for rips

I sincerely hope that this isn't something that happens so often that we'd need a forum foru it (though I realize it does happen often). A negative forum isn't something I think any forum needs. It is like reading the obituaries for the sport of it.

I must say that is pretty funny :stickout

Too funny.

On a more serious note, I'm surprised that anyone is surprised that this type of thing happens every day. We see our stuff all over the place, often used without permission (even if some people refuse to believe that our material is actually ours  ). The number of threads has increased dramatically lately, but I doubt it's because this activity has increased to a level higher than it ever used to be. I think people are posting things as they find them now when in the past they might not have done that. It would be handy to toss them all into an area of their own so people uninterested could skip them in bunches, but that's just another area of the forum to manage. I'm sure that the mods would love to give up more of their copious free time for that. :D

Hmmm... making a rip board is a pretty nifty idea

THing is, we're not really a web designer's forum, so having a specific forum for ripped designs doesn't seem to make much sense to me. I thought (have to check to be sure) that yaxnay has a ripped section (not sure just pertaining to graphics or complete designs), but.

We simply can't be everything to everyone, it just isn't possible and although it is a problem (ripped designs), I still hate negative topic forums (such as 'ripped designs' or 'bad hosting experiences' etc.) - I'd rather put up an 'amazing web designs' forum instead and take a lookie at the great things that people/firms do. Not that we're putting that up as this isn't a design forum, but you get the point...

Note that you can ask Robert and if he wants to do it, fine by me of course. I'm just not thrilled with the idea enough to push it. If there's something I like, I lobby for it in the admin forum :D

Yaxay used have a forum called 'rips r us' but like chicken mentioned it was just attracting bad publicity and was eventually taken down, in fact it got so silly ppl were posting just for the sake of posting sites that weren't even rips.
