Well I have the RAQ3 server up and running, but i carnt do anything. The Controll panel is totally crap.

How the hell do you park a domain ext? .. The whole controll panel is complicated, and baddly orgnaised.

I can upgrade to the 550 os, but all instructions i have found are a bit confuseing:

----------------------------------

IS THEIR A ALTERNATE CONTROLL PANEL THAT I CAN USE?

Is the RAQ3 able to upgrade to a linux os or something? :agree:

Thanks.

You can run CentOS + BlueQuartz (StrongBolt - see www.osoffice.co.uk), or you can run Rackstar OS (www.rackstar.net). Both are based on more modern Linux cores (Red Hat Enterprise and Fedora, respectively), and include more 550-like interfaces, which will give some additional control. They also both have modern versions of Apache, PHP, Perl, MySql, etc, and thus are more amenable to addition of other open-source packages.

You can also buy DirectAdmin, Webmin, or any number of other packages and have them installed on your system.

However, in truth it sounds like you should sell your Raq3 to someone who is familiar with them and buy a stock 1U Linux system running DirectAdmin or something.

Best of luck!

I have tested DirectAdmin on the Cobalts and they run perfectly but you have got to do some configurations before you can get them to work.

Here is a FAQ

I am looking for RaQs  but then shipping them to Singapore is just too expensive :(

I have a month to transfer my sites to the new server, or i lose the data/visitors. Otherwise id head over to a freebsd as i can use them.

Well i guess ill install "CentOS + BlueQuartz" see how it goes.
Thanks for advice.

Did you know the RaQ4's were well known for being simple?

Well anyway the RaQ3 os has been outdated since the RaQ4 came out.. You would install the RaQ4 os on there and not the RaQ3 os...

As far as the problems you had...

The RaQ3/4/550/bluequartz/whatever dosen't have a built in automatic way to park domains.. You setup each virtual and it's dns and how and where you point things is up to you.

I have released my iso's at http://www.cobaltiso.com/ if you would like to use them...

Ohh Thanks.
So where is the file i need to edit to park a domain?
I think i will update to RAQ4 later, just need to ensure i can run the server asap at the minute.

RaQ3:
Just add your domain as usual in the GUI and your
domain will be "parked". If you don't like the default
index.html just change it.

There is no specific file to edit. Your actually going throught the whole process of setting up a "website" You add a Virtual site and the dns for it. You can then click on the green wrench and then site settings. There you will find Web Server Aliases. in that box you can add multiple hostnames that the virtual site will respond to. (granted they have there dns correct)
