Hey, I'm finishing up a dev server on a WinXP Pro box (Running Apache), and I'm looking for a good mail server to finish everything off. Something in the freeware department would be great, but I would be willing to drop some coin for something fantastic.
Any ideas?
Thanx :)

Two suggestions:
iMail
MDaemon
Both are good and have their own advantages. iMail has a better web interface I think while MDaemon's anti virus module is great.
We run both on different servers...
Merak mailserver is the cheapest high quality email server for windows.
I have forgotten the URL but you can find it on google.
You can have a unlimited domain/users version for about $200.

Other the other hand MailSite or Exchange is really good but very expensive, we've automated everything at GearHost so I guess it depends on what's easier to maintain and work for your clients but both are costly.
Exchange needs a whole server (a powerful server) and I think it is not suitable if you need a mailserver only.
Other mailservers (such as mdaemon, imail, merak) can do mailserver job with less than 10% of exchange's cpu load.

True but it's all based on what your requirements are. Exchange is extremely reliable and expandable as well as programmable. Again it's an expensive solution, like I said and doesn't fit everyone's needs where maybe a iMail server can. Basically it's all based on what your hosting company does and needs.

MainEnable (www.mailenable.com). The standard version is free and I haven't found a fault in the tests I've made so far. I rate it up there with Merak and Imail.

I would also look into XMail www.xmailserver.org
There are some GUIs to help set it up now, it used to be config file.
It's very powerful, and cross-platform.
[edit] and I forgot to mention, it is free.
check out ntmail http://www.gordano.com it's bit on the expensive side but works nicely
