I think that the problem of the screen size will be solved once you transfer the design to HTML, HTML version can fit correctly with any screen resolution.

Although the buttons seems to be stretched (I Agree with DLevit) but they are not bad (in my opinion)...

Also you choosed 2 nice colors (Gray & blue)

I suggest you substantially lower the starting bid.

the reason its so small is because i try to build around people who use 800x600 (dont laugh at me) cause i still find alot of people use it. i placed a light grey background on the page and it looks better. grey bg (http://www.clansites.net/template/template1.htm) as for the buttons are you referring to the blue between them and the boarder?

people running at 800x600 resolution have anywhere from 744-780 pixels of width. Yours is 500px wide. Maybe you can make the body contents stretch some more.

The buttons look like that is probably due to the structure of the font probably.
