Hello people,

I am looking for some advice here. I have the possibility to buy a server (Am looking for a Sun Cobalt RAQ 550 I think...). Well, I don't know the exact price for it, but let's say around 2500 Euro.

I also have the opperunity to get co-located at a good data center, for just 61 Euro a month with 10 GB bandwith.

Their connections are:
1x 34 Mbit
4x 100Mbit
1x 155 Mbit
1x 1000Mbit

the prices for extra bandwith are:

25 GB/month instead of 10GB = 35 Euro extra
50 GB = 90 Euro extra
100GB = 195 Euro extra
200 GB = 295 Euro extra

What should you people advice. Go dedicated with Rackshack or something or, do what I just stated above?

Hello Robin,

I guess you're talking about datacenter in Europe which is not far from you. I'm myself European (Russian) amd I know the Euoropean prices... If I'd have to choose between cheap rackshack and datacenter that is good and has good connectivy then I'd go with datacenter (not rackshack). The main reason is that you can go and visit your server to see how it is doing and fix anything if you feel like something need to be fixed. I don't like to trust companies like rackshack (but most of people here have to trust) because they can't garaunree you that hardware and software they installed on your server is working correctly. I like to do everything from localy. My suggestion to is to go with datacenter for colo, even the European prices are higher.
