View Full Version : Getting back to 3d... Finally
MGCJerry 06-15-2002, 06:02 AM Well, since its been ages since I worked on an image. I set up this scene just to make sure I still know how to use my darn programs... I think the scene turned out quite nice, despite it being my first scene since Feb...
Enjoy....
Melissa's Room 24.6KB

There's quite a story behind this character ;)
Don't worry, I'm not getting paid or anything for my work, its just a hobby... Ok... An expensive hobby... Maybe someday I can afford Lightwave 7.
Oh.... BTW, like all of my images there was no photoshopping this image :)
iamdave 06-15-2002, 06:06 AM VERY NICE!
MGCJerry 06-15-2002, 06:51 AM Thanks... :D
Come to think of it... The texture on the couch isnt very good... Its too pixelated. Oh well, I sure dont feel like UV mapping anything anyway :)
Axel Teflon 06-15-2002, 07:32 AM May I ask what program you used?
Nice picture ;)
MGCJerry 06-15-2002, 07:51 AM I used a program called Poser 4 (http://curiouslabs.com/products/poser4/index.html). but I used many freely available models (I also have about $1000-1500 worth of models).
Just a note of warning, the demo really sucks... I almost didnt buy it because of the demo was so pethetic.
There are many other nice pictures by other people, but they photoshop the hell out of their images. I'm one of a few handful of users that do not do any postwork on the images that come out of poser...
Ok.... Rant time :eek2:.... All the images below never even seen Photoshop, plus I didnt have photoshop at the time these were made anyway :)
They say poser cant do trees and bushes.... Guess what I did with poser? ;)
Look! I made bushes in poser using a hidden feature! (http://2thextreme.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showpic&pid=18&orderby=dateD)
They say poser cant do liquid effects... Guess what I did 2 tests on? ;) warning these contain blood, in case you miss it :)
Blood Test 1 (http://2thextreme.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showpic&pid=13&orderby=dateD)
Blood Test 2 (http://2thextreme.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showpic&pid=14&orderby=dateD)
They say poser cant do space images... I think a picture of earth rendered in poser looks nice? ;)
Earth (http://2thextreme.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showpic&pid=15&orderby=dateD)
End rant mode...
Oh.... The program is also good at doing people... After all it was originally designed for artists to aid in painting, drawing the human figure in poses...
Oh.... and thanks for the complements :) and here goes my BW for the month
Axel Teflon 06-15-2002, 08:03 AM Ah yes. Poser 4. I thought so. A expensive program in the making! Ha, very good program might I add. I also know some guys who use, experts aswell might I add.
Good work btw. ;)
Chang Lee 06-15-2002, 09:46 AM Wow! Impressive!
I really admired your work in Blood Test 1 !!!!! Super !!!!! Except for the blood, everything looks very close to realistic in spite of not photoshoping anything !!!!
What I cant understand is why the 'blood' doesn't look so real yet? Is that something not easily achieveable in Poser 4?
MGCJerry 06-15-2002, 03:37 PM Thanks...
Gee.... I'm getting more replies from WHT than anywhere else I post my work (shows how much my work stinks ;) )...
I cant wait for Poser5... Raytracing, collision detection, new figures, etc... Hopefully CL (curious labs) will keep thier promise and the P5 upgrade will be "reasonable"...
Chang Lee... Poser doesnt have any support for raytracing, radiosity, and stuff like that... Or even any forms of liquids. I've actually had people who use Poser accuse me of doing photoshopping. Poser doesnt have the capability of modelling, but it is possible to manipulate forms using "deformers" and "magnets". Doing liquids, water, blood, oil, ocean, is usually left to a program like Bryce or Vue or even photoshop.
What makes the scene even more impressive (on a poser user PoV), is I used only standard poser props to acheive the effect... Since poser doesnt have collision detection (yet), I needed to look for a way to either reproduce it, or fool the user (best bet is to try to mimic collision detection it). I'm still not good at it yet, but gotta start somewhere...
Ok... here - Nudity Present (http://2thextreme.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showpic&pid=11&orderby=dateD) is an image I really shook some people up with, because that render is straight out of poser, and like any other image I do, it never even seen photoshop...
Maybe someday I can do my second animation... (my first one was just a test).

Shook UP ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I was more than shaken !!!!!!!!! I was rising UP !!!!!!!! ;)
SIMPLY AWESOME!
At a distance of a few feet away from my monitor, its even kinda difficult to say this is not a real photographic image!

lol
Well... thats what a render that uses up 1.2GB RAM looks like. When I posted that on "Renderosity" a lot of people thought I photoshopped it... When that picture was made I didnt even have photoshop.
Thanks for the compliment :D

I didnt mean that in a bad way. Gee... I re-read my statement, and it sounds horrible. What I intended to say, is that if anyone sees some of the other work that other people do, you would prolly never even comment on my images (or even look at them)...
Good Stuff
I do allot of 3d myself but using cad software like Catia, Mechanical Desktop and Solid Edge.
I have always wanted to try 3d vis. One day I will sit down and teach myself.
Cheers
A friend of mine has a great website for the kind of work you do.
You should take a look at some of his stuff.
Graphics Tech (http://www.graphicsteck.com/)
He would love to hear what you think
:)
NetXL 06-16-2002, 10:49 AM I've got a friend who does this kind of stuff, i'm really impressed with his work.

I'm blown away lol Great stuff
What software did he use to do that train??
NetXL 06-16-2002, 10:59 AM He made that in Lightwave. He's a very good artist too..
Here's another one, very cool. Unfinished apparently.

bromyaur 06-16-2002, 11:53 AM I use Poser sometimes to add a person or animal into an image I make using Bryce. Bryce is my main program althoug I do do some post work in other programs such as Photoshop, Painter. Not much but sometime when an image just needs something more,
Here's on I used Poser for, the hand of course.
http://www.graphicsteck.com/offsite/pawn.jpg
One of my very first Bryce images from about 3 years ago, have since learned how to populate a scene to add more realism.
http://www.graphicsteck.com/images/AQUARIUM.jpg
My favorite image I did with the use of Poser, wolves, snake antelope.

One I'm still working on:

Poser guards: No post work

Renderosity competition for creating an image of cliches:

My first Bryce 5 image, always meant to get back to do something with the texture on the dino but never did. Dino in Poser.

QUOTE"Come to think of it... The texture on the couch isnt very good"
I find flaws in every single image I do lol
I told ya this guy knows his stuff
Amazing bromyaur
:) :)
bromyaur 06-16-2002, 05:05 PM humbly blushing while I say thanks, but there are many more people who are true masters at these programs, something I will never be. It's just an expensive hobby for my lol.:)
MGCJerry 06-16-2002, 06:10 PM wow! Thats some nice stuff. The train was simply awsome.
I feel so. noob to 3d now.
MattF 06-16-2002, 06:26 PM Wow!!!
Some very impressive work above by all. Very impressed:)
MGCJerry 06-19-2002, 12:13 AM Instead of starting a new thread, I'll recycle this one...
Heres another one I made earlier today... Don't worry, this will be my last one posted here unless I make something really good...
Heres (http://www.2thextreme.org/pfo/Lisa.jpg) Lisa... Just some poser chick I made up.
Enjoy...
