In my opinion they need to try and set this thing to be located in the same spot each year. I might go to Chicago none-the-less just so I can have a beer with the_pm. Vegas just seems to be a nice after math to the all day butt kissing and hosting jargon going on. From what I heard - vegas was nice as well because you didn't have to worry about Taxi expense from place to place where in Chicago - that is going suck. Do you really want a bunch of drunk host providers wondering the streets of downtown Chicago? LOL. Eleven2 Hosting 10-03-2006, 12:10 PM I am excited about the pizza in chicago though, so idk. jerett 10-03-2006, 12:12 PM Well - I might go just to show my support. I haven't ever been (was hoping for the vegas one) but chicago might be easier to sell to my wife. I mean - Vegas was going to be months and months of Honey - Do's to even begin to convince her that it is really about hosting and not endless nights of whore romping, gambling, and the killing of a few brain cells. garysimat 10-03-2006, 12:30 PM that whore romping, gambling and killing brain cells really helps you talk to new clients and such! jerett 10-03-2006, 01:10 PM HA! - to some degree I suppose. Of course I was only joking. Wasn't I? ;) Eleven2 Hosting 10-03-2006, 01:13 PM that whore romping, gambling and killing brain cells really helps you talk to new clients and such! I agree, I solely made my decision to keep at least 1 server at EV1 was due to the partying with david lowry, all the other ev1ites are lame. jerett 10-03-2006, 01:29 PM Everyone come to chicago and see Jerett and Rodney hooking up the worms for some casting out in the lake. Just call me Huck. Ummm - that means you have to be Tom, Rodney. Sorry :( But I did call it first. :D On a more serious note - I feel like a dope today so excuse many of my pointless ramblings. danman 10-03-2006, 05:18 PM Outstanding location! I'll be there!! jerett 10-03-2006, 05:44 PM all in all as I mentioned in the other post - chicago should be an amazing backdrop for this convention and with it close enough to downtown - it should cater to the liquid diet. i tend on making it to this one. do you have no somebody to have a good time? HA! :( danman 10-03-2006, 05:57 PM Looks like more info has been posted on http://www.hostingcon.com/2007/. Vortex-Steve 10-03-2006, 06:11 PM I'll have to see what other WHT people are doing, and whether or not the other Vortex guys here want to go. I'm going to be in Vegas in June, so I guess it is good that it's going to be in a different US City as it gives me an excuse to go somewhere else rather than back to the same place within a few weeks. Doesn't look like Vrigin fly direct to Chicago which is a bit of a pain though, although I might try and extend my stay in the US a few weeks then I can go direct to Chicago rather than back to the UK for a few days! DaWiseMouse 10-04-2006, 01:33 AM Looks like more info has been posted on http://www.hostingcon.com/2007/. Heeheehee,.. LOL. I'm getting my camerea so I can get some free hosting from some of the people there once I viedo type there drunkness. jerett 10-04-2006, 11:59 AM HA! Just look for me. My name badge will read - Eleven2 - Rodney G. ;) Eleven2 Hosting 10-04-2006, 12:02 PM HA! Just look for me. My name badge will read - Eleven2 - Rodney G. ;) Ya and I will kick your *** Jerett, we need to go grab some mexican food one day here soon! DaWiseMouse 10-04-2006, 01:21 PM What can I say Frank... you guys have a rather predictable system! Predictable eh.. we will see about that.. http://www.hostingcon.com/not-2007-but-somethingelse-unpredictable/coming-soon/maybe?/ :-D jerett 10-04-2006, 03:18 PM Mexican food - now that is for sure one thing they wont have in Chicago that is worth my time. :) Rod - lets hook up it soon. You know me - mention food and beer and I am all over it. (Stephen) 10-04-2006, 04:54 PM Mexican food in Chicago, for people from Texas, that is like eating grits in Boston! DaWiseMouse 10-04-2006, 05:09 PM Mexican food in Chicago, for people from Texas, that is like eating grits in Boston! ROFLMAO... Mexican food is something we have in abundance here.. lots of it and good stuff too, not talking about that Taco Bell Crap either.. Mouse jerett 10-04-2006, 05:11 PM LOL - yes it is. There is just no comparison to a local hole in the wall tex mex joint in Texas. Sit back with your chips, salsa and beer. Ahhhhh!!!!!! jerett 10-04-2006, 05:13 PM I am sure you have it - but not the kind I am talking about. I have tried mexican food up north and it's just the same. It's like New York Style Pizza in Houston - we got it - but it's nothing like New York Pizza. (Stephen) 10-04-2006, 07:01 PM I am sure mexican food in chicago is better than some of the mexican food i ate in Vegas :) Rman2003 10-04-2006, 09:04 PM Just took a job where the office is based in Chicago, so I might actually get to go to this one. I'm looking forward to it. AH-Tina 10-04-2006, 09:25 PM There are some amazing Mexican restaurants around Chicago and the surrounding areas. About 20 mins south of Chicago in Kanakakee there is this place called El Campasino...the best Mexican cuisine EVER. --Tina portalplanet 10-04-2006, 09:30 PM Definitely alot closer for me! I'm close to Cincinnati, OH. I will be doing my best to attend. Chicago is driving close for me. Justin jerett 10-04-2006, 10:05 PM Tina - can it be a date then? ;) Kidding but I would love to have someone take me to the top Mexican place in Chicago. I love trying different the cuisine in different areas of the country. macdonaldp 10-04-2006, 11:12 PM Well, there is a great chance I'll be there. I've heard so many good things about Chicago that I may just have to be there. There's a chance I'll be in the Boston area around that time so a trip over to Chicago won't be inconvenient. I'm for one glad it's not in Las Vegas... (Stephen) 10-05-2006, 01:16 AM jerett, I have to say you are the most forthcoming person I have ever seen :D You already know the best mexican food is right here in Texas, most autentic as well :) Eleven2 Hosting 10-05-2006, 02:37 AM nobody, i mean nobody beats papasittos... jerett 10-05-2006, 02:22 PM HA - look at my spelling - "the most autentic" - i sound like my son. Stephen - HA!!!! I was only kidding with Tina. I am happily married but always open to someone showing me the best places to eat in different cities. Lets make a WHT night out in Chicago and go to a great mexican food joint. Deal? buba69 10-10-2006, 03:01 PM There are some amazing Mexican restaurants around Chicago and the surrounding areas. About 20 mins south of Chicago in Kanakakee there is this place called El Campasino...the best Mexican cuisine EVER. --Tina Are you kidding!?!?!? Kankakee is more than 60 miles(read 1.5hrs drive usually) from Navy Pier. There have to be about 5328478 other Mexican restaurants inbetween.... and I can guarantee that at least 7 of them are better than anything in Kankakee. As for HostingCon at Navy Pier? I think it is a good thing. It's better for people with spouses or kids that need a summer trip. Plenty to do on the Pier as well as downtown. Location way better than 2005. Oppourtunities abound for onsite/offsite activities, both sponsored and independent. The show will not feel dwarfed in the Navy Pier hall. And the best difference from Vegas is that you are not forced to be in a casino! (though if that is your thing, you are only about 30 minutes away from one). Devilboy3007 10-12-2006, 06:01 PM jerett, You already know the best mexican food is right here in Texas, most autentic as well :) No go down a little more to Mexico jerett 10-12-2006, 06:29 PM LOL - oh I know thats true. :) (Stephen) 10-12-2006, 06:53 PM No last I checked they are all coming here and we have the exact same food :D qwidjib0 10-12-2006, 07:22 PM Downtown Chicago is kind of a never-ending backdrop of Thai restaurants, Irish pubs, Starbucks, and Walgreens', with occasionally one other type business thrown in on each city block. There are some amazing Thai restaurants and Irish pub's I know on the southern side of the city - I've never really seen any Mexican. buba69 10-12-2006, 09:26 PM Downtown Chicago is kind of a never-ending backdrop of Thai restaurants, Irish pubs, Starbucks, and Walgreens', with occasionally one other type business thrown in on each city block. Cermak and friends at Columbia on South State, I'm around the southern half of the city pretty regularly (which does look void of red flags there). Never once have I ever been to a real Chicago Mexican restaurant, I must just be missing every one of them. We're not counting the Chipotle on that map as Mexican are we? :P Anyhow, no question there's more Starbucks than any type of restaurant: http://www.starbuckseverywhere.net/Chicagoland.htm igy 10-19-2006, 09:13 PM I am really happy it's in Chicago I now can drive from Canada (8-10hrs). I wanted to go to Vegas and was just about to book a flight for myself and my other half (take vacation also) and she ended up in the hospital with Pulmonary Embolism (blood clots) in her lungs (she is in early 20s). Now we can't fly for awhile so this works out great !! :) Would have been fun to go to Vegas though jerett 10-20-2006, 09:32 AM This whole Mexican food thing compared to texas is crazy. Unless you have been south and actually had some good ole' tex-mex - then you can't really compare. Granted - you have mexiccan food restraunts just like we have Chicago style pizza - but it's just not the same. I'll stand corrected to anyone who wants to introduce me to a place they feel is comparable to tex-mex and if so - i'll buy them a beer. If its superb - maybe dinner too. So I will look forward to meeting you during HostingCon. brentAWH 10-20-2006, 02:03 PM Count me in, Chicago is a great place. It's no Detroit... but you know. ;) WarpFactor 10-23-2006, 09:33 AM Just what I asked for! Chicago is probably the best "big city" in the USA ... such friendly people there. I go several times a year, so it shouldn't be difficult for me to get up there for the event. Sounds great! Devilboy3007 10-23-2006, 06:42 PM Downtown Chicago is kind of a never-ending backdrop of Thai restaurants, Irish pubs, Starbucks, and Walgreens', with occasionally one other type business thrown in on each city block. Walking a mile one way from the nearest parking expect the piers parking isn't an option for most people either. remcom 10-26-2006, 12:51 AM Well, I liked Vegas, but if it wasn't going back there, I was hoping STL or ALB. Guess Chicago works, not totally sure I want to deal with the Chicago ego when it comes to this industry though :-p Depending on the cost and how much hotel will cost is going to matter more this time. I spent more at Vegas because I spent extra time having fun after the Con. We will see still a lot of time for pricing. Rman2003 10-26-2006, 01:06 AM If it's in the budget, you should check out staying at the Wicker Park apartments. You can take a cab, or public transportation to the Pier and it's a pretty nice place for the price. I flew in from STL for work this week, and work has rented it out for myself and the two other guys that flew in from NY. It's a nice place... http://www.twourns.com/wickerparkapartment.htm for more info. jerett 10-26-2006, 09:04 AM Im not a big Wicker person. But if I was ... great place. buba69 10-26-2006, 11:02 AM If it's in the budget, you should check out staying at the Wicker Park apartments. I flew in from STL for work this week, and work has rented it out for myself and the two other guys that flew in from NY. It's a nice place... http://www.twourns.com/wickerparkapartment.htm for more info. Wicker Park is Chicago's most recent trendy neighborhood. Lots of nightlife, restaurants, bars/clubs etc... The place Rman suggested is all of 1 block away from the subway, though is not really in the heart of wicker park, the main wicker park area is a brisk 10 minute walk, or a $5 cab ride away. There is a place called "Four" right by the Wicker Park Apartments, which is fun palce to go. Anyway, this place would be a good alternative to staying in a pricey downtown hotel. jerett 10-26-2006, 12:01 PM Is this wicker park? http://chicagouncommon.com/photography/gallery/wicker_park/ buba69 10-26-2006, 12:08 PM Is this wicker park? http://chicagouncommon.com/photography/gallery/wicker_park/ I would say that is a very "artistic" view of Wicker Park. This site would be more accurate: http://www.carlstumpf.com/Bucktown%20Wicker%20Park/bucktown_wicker_park_main.htm music 10-27-2006, 10:54 PM For those who want to take a visit to the Planetarium, Shed Aquarium, Field Museum use the water taxi. The water taxi tickets are good all day and a great way to get around. Of course walking from Navy Pier to the attractions is only 30 to 40 minute walk. lockbull 11-01-2006, 06:06 PM FYI, arguably the best Mexican restaurant in the U.S. is in Chicago, Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill / Topolobampo. I can't speak for all of Texas, but when I was a consultant I spent a year in both Dallas and Houston, and Frontera Grill / Tobolobampo was easily better than any Mexican restaurant I ate at in either of those cities. jmcole 11-02-2006, 05:51 AM cool Chicago links: http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/ http://www.secondcity.com/?id=theatres/chicago http://www.hottix.org/ http://www.unos.com/ Devilboy3007 11-02-2006, 09:14 PM I would say that is a very "artistic" view of Wicker Park. Alex 11-02-2006, 09:48 PM Looks like a nice location. I'm excited :D. Alex jerett 11-07-2006, 06:34 PM I am looking forward to this years HostingCon. I really hope to meet many people that I have had the pleasure of talking with on WHT - just hopefully not too many I have annoyed. (that could be a lot) I'm actually pulling out my penny jars now to begin counting for the airfare and hotel cost. I always said - "where there is a hole in someone's pocket, there is a way" alanp 11-09-2006, 02:56 AM While Chicago is much closer to where I am, I am not sure that I will be going. If it was in Vegas, I would be there. Neosurge 11-09-2006, 04:09 AM I'm glad it is in Chicago, and might actually attend this year. Vegas is overated to me, I'm not much into gambleing/glitz/glamour and prefer what Chicago has to offer. People coming in from out of town have alot more real culture to see and experience in the city of Chicago. Not to mention some of the best architecture in the world. taylorwilsdon 11-11-2006, 12:38 AM I'm on the fence about attending. I'd love to see Chi-town and it seems like Hostingcon would be good, but I don't know if I can fit it in my July schedule. I don't think I'd be able to pull a turn-around time of a couple days before I left for Africa immediately after hostingcon. |
