probably from links off this board, LOL. pixelbrick is a popular web design company. gearhost is notorious here. people have seen things. then they surf the enormous web and find things. it happens. though, i'm sure only a small percentage of the culprits are caught.

People type in a phrase from their site and *bing* they pop up in google, etc. Getting indexed by the SE's is only a good thing when you haven't ripped a site.

In addition to Chicken's method, we insert lil pieces of unique text and/or images into our site that we can search for. The most popular way for us however is simply checking our site's stats. The thieves tend to upload the site with various pieces of hardcoded links still embedded in it therefore calling our images from our server. They fix it eventually but once tagged....shrug

Now if I could just get a certain thief to acknowledge what they've done and stop... sigh. We've also found it difficult to deal with those that reside in different countries :(

Also Notice the copyright link at the bottom. We found that cyberinfoworld.com had sold our design to a number of their clients. Once we figured that out we went through a list of their clients, that they were kind enough to post on their website, and found others who also had our design. Heh we also found our content on the cyberinfoworld website :rolleyes:

One company using our design told us they found it on a "free template site" :eek:

We've gotten the cyberinfoworld.com site down but http://www.britomatics.com/ refuses to respond and due to their location it's difficult for us to do anything about it :angry: I can only assume they purchased the design from cyberinfoworld.com and feel like they are in the right on this one :mad:

It pisses all of us. I suggest just hiring a lawyer for his services to send a Cease and Desist order. Will cost you a couple hundred for him/her to draft a simple letter claming your copyright on the design and inform the site owner that the SITE they bought it from was "shutdown" for selling designs they did not own. That their "link" to them doesn' even work. And that they have 7 days to remove the design from their site, or you will be forced to go to their upstream provider.

They usually remove it. Any threat to their connection is one threat they dont need.

Unfortunately we've been unable to find any USA contacts for the site I noted above and all letters have been ignored... that's where it becomes more difficult :bawling:

I think it sucks. I really hate when people recycle other peoples material, its just one of them things that can serious get to some people pretty hard, especialy if its there own site.

I also look out for rip sites, and if i find any there'll always busted. I get myself involved because I hate it too much.

Anyway, my suggestion to any people that rip sites reading this, is to grow up make there own site or splash out to pay a designer. :eek:
