After some hours of reading in WHT. I think I need to host my clients sites in datacentre located in the vinicity of California/Oregan, thus to take advantage of the REACH network connecting to the Asia.

I have heard much good about hostgator. However, it's a pity for me that hostgator's servers are located in Texas, and the latency is much higher to Asia (tracert from China to hostgator takes 19hops/3000ms), otherwise I would have loved to become their client.

So, can anyone suggest a reseller host in california or oregan area who can match the quality of hostgator?

3000ms seems suspiciously high.

http://www.linkwan.com/vr/ shows different results, but the distance and number of hops still do their part.

In CA there are reseller hosts like HttpMe, Dotable, ResellerPanel etc.

I needed a directadmin account before, and people recommended me to contact Simpli. I had written to them, but Erica was too slow for responding, cause she's in her vacation, if I remember correctly, so I ended up with another host (gate2vn.net). You can try to contact Erica to see if she's faster this time :)

I think their business is kinda "related" ? they both show good tracert from china....

But some of the nodes lose packets.... do I have to worry about this?

it's a bit surreal to me coz I am used to those inhuman/generic replies from those so-called "big guy" host C.S./support. They, at times, made me feel that the virtual world is indeed ran by computer A.I.. .......

anyhow, gate2vn, I am also a fan of hostgator (being a novice wht reader, who is not?), but internet connection between china and the u.s. is something of a different beast. The trace route is ran from linkwan.com/vr , located in Shanghai, China (by the way, shanghai is a nice metropolitan city........ you should go and visit.... there are tonnes of business opporunity there...... and the girls are nice... oupssss.... )

the packet loss trace route was ran 6 hours ago (noon on saturday, china time), and I just ran the same trace route again (mid-night on saturday, china time), and I got both better latency and minimal packet loss.

so, gate2vn, if I were to open a reseller with you, my account will be host in Atlanta as well? any IP for me to run a trace route ?

ecchisan: well... the Internet in Vietnam is improving. We have more connections to abroad. Yes, there are some censorships here, but mostly, you can surf web sites without trouble, with normal sites such as webhostingtalk.com :)

for the control panels: Helm is running on Windows, so you need it only your web sites are developed with ASP, .NET. Otherwise, you should stay with Linux platform. Between cPanel and DirectAdmin, I highly recommend DirectAdmin, easy to use, much more stable... We have switched 20+ servers from cPanel to DirectAdmin and all the customers are happy. And all our new servers are running DA (we just have 5 new dual-core Opterons servers. Your account will be setup on one of them :) )

sorry for the confusion...... I just order a reseller account with gate2vn, and was asking him/her which control panel it comes with, or if I can choose for that matter.......

and as a novice, I have no idea which is better.... I have used cpanel and plesk in the past. No experience with Directadmin or Helm, but I am willing to try.....

So, I was asking if gate2vn or anyone here can shed some lights on the pros and cons of each...... (haha... that is pretty much off topic of the thread.... )

cPanel is buggy, and staff is slow in supporting. I have once needed their support in switching IP, and it took a week, changing from this supporter to another... and they ended up with apache updating only, nothing more

I never regret switching to DirectAdmin. Much more stable, helpful support, and very easy to use from end-users views
