View Full Version : Cheapest domain registration (including domain forwarding)
mike2000 02-04-2001, 07:55 PM Hi All,
Do you know cheap domain registrars that include provide web forwarding for domains registered.
I need one urgently.
alpha 02-04-2001, 08:09 PM i just registered a domain with registerfly.com
they offer TLD domains for $9.99 (the cheapest registrar who has a professional-looking site design).
I must say, registerfly has a great account management interface... easy to use and user friendly!
another registrar I used late last year was dotster.com (this is when registerfly didn't exist). they registered domains for $15 and their account management is also great.
alot of WHT addicts also recommened 000domains.com. they offer domains for $13.50/year
:)
i definately recommend trying registerfly

SI-Chris 02-04-2001, 09:26 PM You might want to check out dotster.com--I use them all the time and have had excellent service. They just started offering multi-year discounts (see http://www.dotster.com/register/pricing/). They've got "Name Server Hosting," but it's $10/year; looks like it's got a lot of features though.
gthorley 02-05-2001, 01:45 AM Anyone know whether registerfly is an opensrs registrar? I have found the opensrs domain manager the best so far.
Chicken 02-05-2001, 09:02 AM If I had to guess, since they charge $9.99/yr./domain and OpenSRS credits cost $10 ea., I'd say no.
Chicken 02-05-2001, 09:06 AM Just realized this thread is a double post. I'm killing off the other one, but want to include this one post from:
jfiliss
There is http://www.powerpipe.com at $8.88 a year, but I can't get the domain forwarding to work. That might easily by my mistake, though. I'll contact customer service if I'm still at a loss, and update everyone. Unless someone has some better suggestions. :)

jfiliss 02-05-2001, 09:06 PM Okay, I found out I couldn't do it via the regular $8.88 domain registration. I got a fast response from Powerpoint that reads
"The URL/email forwarding service you refer to is our "basic hosting"
package, which includes one customizable under construction page. This
service is $21 per year."
I don't need that right now, so I'll try to set up http://www.mydomain.com off of them and see how that works.
Any other suggestions for registrars? :)
lauryn 02-08-2001, 08:25 PM I registered my domain at 000domains.com and used the stealth forwarding of http://mydomain.com
so far so good
melia 02-08-2001, 08:45 PM I use registerfly.com too. I've done a few with them, and just registered another with them a couple hours ago. They also do forwarding, although I use mydomain.com.
JapAniManga.ch 02-09-2001, 04:58 PM Hi,
in the last Day's I searched for some other Registrars if they are cheaper as Joker.com/Gandi.net (EUR 12.-- every Year). Now in a other WHT-Tread I found PowerPipe.com who have it for USD 8.88 ! Now I thinked: Great now I can save more Money as before but then I thinked ... hmmm is it possible that there is someone who is cheaper as them ? ... ähhh that cant be possible ... OK, more searches and then I found Stargate/DomainXpress ( http://www.stargateinc.com/) who give the Domains (only when you register at the same time 2 Domains and more) for !!! USD 8.-- !!! Now does know anyone a cheaper one ?
For URL-Redirection please try http://www.MyDomains.com who is free !

Haakon 02-09-2001, 09:16 PM I would like to mention homepagenames.com . You might know them from homepagetools.com , established good company that I would say is very reliable (remember that your domain company should live for some years, wich is not common on the internet). They are realy cheap too and offer great control and some extra features.
Duster 02-09-2001, 11:02 PM If someone is shopping by price alone, remember that when you go too cheap, you usually get what you would expect. Just stick the hook in your mouth now so you can be reeled in later.
Personally, I think anyone foolish enough not to consider how important a registrar is since they are handling your domain name(s) deserves what may happen to them.
There are presently gimmicks going on to get more registrations. We've read of $1 regs, the deal NSI doesn't honor, and others. If your time has no value and you enjoy aggravation, by all means take the cheapest price you can find and pay no attention to how the registrar handles this very important function.
We have seen reports here of problems with some of the most expensive registrars (like NSI) and some cheap ones.
I think it makes more sense to look for a good value instead of the cheapest price. I like a system (like the Open SRS Domain Manager) where I can log in and make changes, and I like having a registrar I can depend on, one who provides good service and support.
On the other hand, if someone just goes for the cheapest, they should ahve enough money left over to buy some cheese to go with the whine that is inevitable.
Roquefort might be appropriate. It stinks!
greggish 02-10-2001, 02:17 AM I use DirectNic.com. Cost is $15 and includes ad free URL redirect, unlimitted email forwarding, free webspace with banner, and the best interface to dynamically change any of your DNS setting, contact info, URL forwarding,...etc. instantly.
And if you have several domains the price drops to as cheap as $10.75 per domain...and they handle transfers and batch transfers.
