I'm thinking about purchasing a blackberry to respond to tickets mobily and for live chats. Is this a viable option?

For those of you who have it, do you use Enterprise Server?

I've had a backberry now for just over a year whcih I use for work (Not my hosting business). It is great for getting messages and such, but as for hosting support, it would be of little or no use other then to be notified of a support ticket (or answering one that does not require changing server settings on your end). The web browser that comes with the CrackBerry does not hold cookies so anything that requires cookies or the web browser to retain data wont work (IE: Logging onto WHT wont work, you can sign in, but as soon as it redirectes you back to the pervious page your logged out again).

Its a great tool, but you will still need your PC or Laptop to do anything productive.

As for getting a BES Server (Blackberry Enterprise Server) dont bother. It costs thousands of dollars for the software. We use one at our company, but then again we have over 75 management positions on Blackberry.

The 8125 / 6700 / HTC Apache (thats what its really called) is great for admins-on-the-go. Its a little big, but if you need web access and email 24x7, its perfect :)

There are most definitely much better solutions that are less expensive than the BlackBerry for what you are trying to accomplish. The best thing is to just go try out some data devices from different providers and see what suits you.

I use the Sprint-branded PPC-6700, and it's very easy to use. Since it runs Windows Mobile, there is a good variety of software available. I use it to access servers via SSH and telnet, as well as to check for important emails and to browse the web. It also comes in handy as an EV-DO modem for my laptop.

May I ask what software you can recommend for Windows Mobile? I currently use PDANet to connect my Motorola Q to my laptop for broadband speed and then work of the laptop. With the right software on Windows Mobile I can reduce the need to bring the laptop.

Thanks.

For WM5, all I need is a freeware telnet client, Opera browser and the built in bubble breaker.
