I can't say it's been a good one ethier , I emailed them on day 1 with a probelm because I got a email saying "Subject: [smartcheck] Hard Drive Failure Soon " they checked into it and said everything looked fine .

Day 2 I get yet another 2 emails same subject and info etc

Subject: [smartcheck] Hard Drive Failure Soon
IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
You should backup all the data on the hard drives listed below and replace them as soon as possible.
S.M.A.R.T has detected that they are not peforming within normal operating paramaters.

Excessive ATA Errors on disk /dev/hda. Please consider replacing this drive. Some Errors may be normal due to not 100% compatible IDE controllers and may be ignored.

So I submit a supoort ticket . 8 hrs later I get a response after clearly my server is failing an my few clients sites I do have are going down and many errors flooding my email box. They tell me the hard Drive is failing and they will have to change it and it will take another 2 hours. I would like to thank darren though for spending from about 8pm til 3:30 am for helping and getting the situation resolved.

Day 3
Yet another Email Subject: [smartcheck] Hard Drive Failure Soon
IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
You should backup all the data on the hard drives listed below and replace them as soon as possible.
S.M.A.R.T has detected that they are not peforming within normal operating paramaters.

Excessive ATA Errors on disk /dev/hdc. Please consider replacing this drive. Some Errors may be normal due to not 100% compatible IDE controllers and may be ignored.

Notice it's /dev/hdc this time and not /dev/hda like before and this is about 7 hrs after they just replaced the Hard Drive.

So I can't say my experince has been good with Nocster at all with the past 3 days being a total disaster.

I just don't understand what the heck is the problem with the HD's and I am disappointed in the level of service so far. It's funny I was talking to a sales person and they were always around before I signed up talking up there service and now not a soul can be found

Sorry I am just a tad bit upset right now so please excuse my tones if I am putting off bad tones.

Doesn't sound like you're being quite fair with your assessment.
Some problems are more difficult to diagnose than others.
I also think it's irresponsible of you to transfer your customers domains to a server that just came on line. You need to be certain everything works before that. Infant mortality should be expected. It happens with all equipment. And you never know if it's going to happen to yours. But, if it does; it's soon.
As far as Nocster support goes; I have had nothing but fantastic service from them. And can only speculate that yours is a difficult situation for any admin to diagnose.

Sorry you have problems. But I think you're too quick to blame.

I've had no problems either. You are right about he should have put the server through a test. I waited a week before I moved vital sites onto it. Also hard drive problems can happen at any time. Maybe they added a defective drive. Just call and talk to Matt the customer service manager. He is the best guy to talk to.

If I would have had a choice not to move the customers that would have been the ultimate option , Unfortunately I didn't have that option. I am just stumped that this is the 2nd hard drive in 3 days and it is already failing within a few hrs of replacement of a new Hardrive.

Other than this problem everything else has been great , network speed is great , server speed is great , supoort seems great after you get it but it could be faster :) I guess I am just miffed (sp?) on why this is hapening and if anyone would care to explain I would be happy to listen. Like I said sorry if I sound harsh but it's been a awful week for me personally.

Hi All,

The situation did happen, and we are extremely sorry about it. These are all new HD's, and there was a bad one. We stress test each drive before it goes online, so that these types of situations are avoided as best as possible. Unfortunately with HD's it's never a question of "if it will fail" but rather when. Even with the best HD's, I have seen immediate failure, and it is never an easy task to deal with, but we do everything we can. An admin was assigned to this, and assisted last evening in recovering all data and placing onto a new HD. The old drive was left on the machine for any further data recovery, and that is the error which is currently being received. The original failure was:
Excessive ATA Errors on disk /dev/hda and now is: Excessive ATA Errors on disk /dev/hdc We will retain the HD here for any further needed recovery, but to avoid the HD failure notices, it is being removed.

Thanks,

That's the problem with moving parts, it just takes one small problem to turn into a big mess and there really is very little that can be done to prevent it; taking quick action to correct it is what matters most.

It really seems that Nocster came through in this case, and I'm glad for this thread because it shows that they really do seem to be on the ball and willing to actually help you out.

It seems my searching for a decent cpanel license and an offsite server has been kind of dropped in my lap as I just picked up one of their nifty closeouts.

Time to play!
