Hello there,
I want to redo my site (http://www.stanmed.net) using PHP-NUKE. I can only afford to have a shared server, prolly from some VDI or Alabanza host.
How much system resources will php-nuke and addons consume for a site with 500 to 1000 users? Can I run it on a shared server? I cant afford to get a dedicated server.
Will the hosts allow it - VDI and Alabanza based hosts?
TIA.
Wing.

You shouldnt have a problem with any host :)

I've got two Nuke sites running (ScarsdaleToday.com and WestchesterWire.com) on Alabanza-based servers and they run fine without any problems at all.
Just make sure your provider isn't using a very old version of PHP (v3.07 or earlier) and you should be fine.
I don't have anywhere near 500 or 1000 users/members, but I do get thousands of visitors a month.
Nuke is a great program. v4.4 should be coming out soon. It is eagerly awaited.
Feel free to write me with any questions, if you have any.

Thanks folks.
I'm also expecting the release of v4.4.
Also, I want to authorize user sign-ups so that people from outside the college cannot register in the students category.
Does anyone have a custome PHP-NUKE hack to have member categories and registration authorization with multiple admins?

Its a free GPL Content Management system in PHP and mysql. you can check it out at http://www.phpnuke.org :)

Yeah, it's way too slow.
The site is hosted in Indonesia, which probably seems to have even less bandwidth than India. And all this being a popular site.
They were telling about upgrading to a new server but guess haven't done it yet.
And hey, somebody tell me about Authorisation for individual sign-ups by admins.
Tx.

Your other option would probably slashcode.. its very similar to phpnuke .... http://slashcode.com/

Thanks Nick. But Slahcode is in Perl. I prefer PHP. Talking about Perl, Metadot http://www.metadot.com - written in Perl looks good. This was mn my shortlist along with Nuke. But I decided to go with PHP.
In PHP-Nuke, can I add user authorisation by an administrator to the sign-up script? Because I do not want a pranky visitor to sign-up under my college alumni or staff category. I can't launch my site without this. And I don't know PHP programming and now am too strapped to find time to learn. An add-on to do this will be great.

The server has finally been moved... The new IP address is http://63.209.80.233/
Also, there was a note that 4.4 will be released late tomorrow (but elsewhere it says Friday).
