I need a new host because my current host runs PHP in safe mode, uses an old verison of PHP, and won't let me Telnet.

I need 5 GB/month, 100 MB, PHP4, MySQL3.23, and Telnet. E-mail aliases are necessary, but it would be awesome if they had POP3 (and even SMTP) too. I'm posting this here because I don't want offers from hosts, I want actual user experiences.

Also, two or more MySQL databases would be nice, but I only need one. :)

I believe Hosting Matters (www.hostmatters.com) offers paypal payment option.

I have been with them for about a year, and have been quite satisfied with their overall performance.

Servers are reliable, have had few outages
Speed and conectivity are good, although I have never tested the 'limits' as I don't have a big site (none at the moment, just paying for email ti I get some new sites on it)
Prices are reasonable.
Support is excellent, can get information from user forums, ticket system or email (integrated with tickets)
Also has many good features, like image hot link blocking, cPanel based (easy to use), POP, IMAP, SSH, etc.

I believe you can get what you want for $16 per month, there are discounts if you pay for a year in advance I blieve.

HostingMatters' B1000 plan looks tempting...BTW I will be paying annually.

If you put this in the requests section I am sure you could get more offers.

Also, 90% of hosts do not allow telnet, but do allow SSH as it is much more secure (and does the same thing), and there are free clients for windows.

As an added note: there was recently a post here regarding Hosting matters, check back a few pages in this forum.

I don't see where Hosting Matters accept PayPal :confused:

It was posted in their forum a while back by one of their people. I would email them and ask.

I'll second Trish. I'm with Alwayswebhosting as well. Great uptime. Naturally there are outrages as well (only one or 2 so far - too few to be bothered with remembering :stickout ), but I don't recall one that lasts over 20 minutes (and it was 7am in the morning over in USA)

I've got 4 domains with Ron (owner of Alwayswebhosting), and support has been excellent. My emails get answered within a 6 hours time frame ALL the time. The fastest was only a matter of minutes! Overall great customer service offered - my tickets are opened and closed so fast (matter resolved - actually, just a request for domains), I wonder why they even bother to have a helpdesk :D

My 2-cents. Go with them - you'll love their service.

And oh, they accept Paypal too ;)

I can't imagine Annette and co. would turn you away, so it's best to pop them an e-mail and see what they say - they don't bite much.. well Annette does but it's mostly just a bit of a chew. :)

Hmm, dosen't paypal have an virtual credit card that you can use that takes the funds direct from your paypal account, and or bank. I believe its the shop online anywhere feature thing. You may want to check it out, that way you may find your not limited to only "paypal" accepting web hosting.:)

Okay, well I use www.infodoma.com for one of my mission critical client sites - I am paid on traffic with this one, so uptime is essential and they haven't let me down yet (been with them about 4 months).

They've got all the features you need but I think your requirements fall between two packages but if you email them, you can sort out a custom deal at a good price. Fast support, as well - which is again something I personally needed, as I am in the UK and they are in the US.

In fact, I recommend Infodoma to anyone looking for a *nix host.

Hosting Matters seems to be doing well so far :)

My apologizes for the PM filburt1. I would suggest slabhost, they accept paypal and is a great start up hosting company. Very quick response time and I have had no problems with them. They just moved to a new datacenter and when my site was brought back up I didn't have my database, received a database backup in no time. Great start up hosting company. Just my recommendation.
