How many of you received this e-mail from Interland.com?
You may have seen our recent letter to you indicating that Register.com has made a business decision to discontinue it SiteAmerica Web hosting services effective June 30, 2002.

Interland understands that you Web hosting services are critical to your business. In cooperation with SiteAmerica, we are committed to ensuring that you have an alternate hosting solution in place - a solution that provides the best products, service and support that your business deserves.

To that end, we pleased to offer you the opportunity to transition your account to Interland, Inc. - the #1 provider of Web hosting services for small and medium businesses. In fact, Interland has already reviewed your current product and service offering. Our hosting packages offer you the same features and functionality as your current plan. And, Interland's hosting packages can provide enhanced capabilities - increase storage space, email accounts and bandwidth.

etc, etc, etc
Wonder what they will do if their own clients try to do the same ...

Just check out their Acceptable Usage page http://interland.com/legal/acceptableuse/default.asp

3. Prohibited Uses. Users may not:

Utilize the Services to send mass unsolicited e-mail to third parties.

Utilize the Services in connection with any other disruptive or abusive activity. Without limiting the general application of this rule, Users may not:

Utilize the Services to solicit or collect, or distribute, advertise or promote, e-mail address lists for the purpose of encouraging or facilitating unsolicited commercial e-mail or spam;

Now let me try that - we rent servers from Rackshack and others ... *sigh*

Let me tell you why - I would love to grow my business as well, but will not make use of spam to do so.

Point is, Interland (like 90% of all hosting companies) have a strict policy against sending spam from their servers, but they allow their sales team to use it! And in this case the big guys will get away with it, because nobody can "pull" their server, it's their own.

Funny thing is, I don't have a hosting account with them (register.com), but used their domain registration service some time ago. And that is where they picked up my e-mail address.

That is very interesting...look at the letter closely. The grammar in it is absolutely atrocious:

to discontinue it SiteAmerica Web hosting

Should be its

understands that you Web hosting services

Should be your

To that end, we pleased to offer

Missing an are

With all of the money Interland has, you would think they would take the time to proofread their spam before they send it out :D.
