I have heard that it is a bad thing to use multiple IP's on a Cobalt. How accurate is that?

I don't want to go giving every single site it's own IP address, but if I needed to use 75 different IP's on the machine, how would it effect the services?

Does using more IP's mean things will run a little slower? If it has any effect, what are they?

I think the primary reason you've heard bad things isn't specific to the Cobalt but rather just general IP-conservation. Most people realize unless you're running SSL there just aren't many good reasons NOT to do named based hosting whenever possible.

That's good to hear......we have many sites we want to place the different size bandwidth limits on, but don't need SSL.......

cbtrussel is correct, they're just saying that due to IP conservation.

also, you could try mod_throttle or something similair for limitting bandwidth on sites on the SAME ip, i think.

It's only the RaQ CP that needs them to be on separate ips for throttling.
