What do people think about presenting you as a "I" and "Me" speaking from first person when running a hosting company?

I see alot of people using "We" when they are a one man band, who is "we"? Are they meaning that there is more than 1 person involved or they mean "we the business".

Do you think it is ok to use first person? What would some of the pros/cons of doing this?

Interesting question.

I would have to say it depends on the subject matter. In the case of helping one customer, the customer would feel better that there is a name to who is helping him as opposed to an "organization" of nameless, faceless, humanless men in black working on his problem.

In terms of a store front, main page etc, you would rather have the, "we," because one man or woman can't do it all you feel safe in numbers.

When it comes down to it there is really no problem at all. Just where it is used. Put yourself in their shoes would you feel better with a fire department of I or a fire department of we, protecting your home. When you finally need the fire department, a few will pull out of the burning building instead of 50.

If you are speaking on behalf of more than yourself, use WE. If you are speaking for yourself use I. Where does the complication fall?

People lie, or just use "We" to state the "business" when they are a sole trader.

Referring to a post I made a few minutes ago on another threat ....13 year olds that own a "Hosting Company" to acting like their a multi-billion dollar corp with 55 employees and 24x7x365 support.

I prefer using "I" and "Me" when posting on forums. Even if I have employees, I'm the one who's typing. Mostly there's no reason to use "we", but lots of people like to show off.

Keep in mind that even if you are a one man show you may have other guys working for you without having a contract. For example your wife could help you with your work or a friend of yours. You could be hiring external staff from another company (i.e. third party outsources support). In this case you could refer to your company as "we" eventhoug you are a one man show.

Presenting as a one man host may scare away some customers. Thoughts like "what happens to my domain name if he has an accident and dies" might arise in the customer`s brain...

There's nothing wrong in using "I" if you're signing your name and your designation with your communications with your customers. It adds a personal touch to the message and customers often feel more comfortable because of it. "

We" is used if you represent more than one person, quite often sole traders use it to represent the business entity although that's technically incorrect since a sole trader (unincorporated) is not a separate business entity from the owner. Single person LLCs and INCs are becoming common as well, not too sure on the technicality of using "we" in that situation.

At the end of the day its a matter of personal preference and corporate image, how you basically want to appear in front of your customers.

Even when "I" was a one man show running my company I still had people I paid to perform services so "we" was technically correct. I agree there are lots of folks here that try to convey this persona they are huge, but I found customers actually prefer hearing names and I/Me much more than just eluding to others.

Be different - use your company name.
I try not to use "we", "me", "I" or "us".

I use Swizi!

It's the company name right? You're not hosting with me, you're hosting with Swizi.
Doesn't make sense, does to me.

But "I" and "me" is fine.
