View Full Version : [Site Rip] NetRockers
the_pm 09-12-2006, 03:58 PM Rippers: http://www.netrockers.com/website-design.html
Original: http://www.equentity.com
http://www.equentity.com/services/
(their page of content is a combination of two of our pages)
Cease and desist is on its way!
the_pm 09-12-2006, 04:14 PM A little search engine justice goes a long way. Here's hoping they take notice of this, if they don't take notice of the C&D.
jerett 09-12-2006, 04:22 PM Not that it matters but Frank has this to offer:
Frank: Coz i wanted some content asap. and I found that website near to it very much. I want to make changes to the content as soon as im free.
I wish you the best buddy on getting this resolved. Doesn't appear he is in a big hurry to remove it and feels that even if it's temporary - its okay? Wouldn't you get that from his comment?
the_pm 09-12-2006, 04:29 PM You know, I've had people ask me if they can use my content verbatim or with minor modifications. I appreciate such requests, and I'm generally pretty good with them. In some cases, I'll give full permission for use, not of Equentity.com's content, but I've done this with other properties we own. Other times, I'll help people come up with content on their own based on the ideas they may have liked from something we've written.
I don't care what his intentions are. Stealing from someone and passing it off as your own isn't just illegal, it's downright disrespectful.
I assume this Frank person is the site creator/Webmaster? I only got as far as the domain whois and upstream provider.
Jerett, can you give me more information on Frank, like a way to contact him, if he truly is the owner of the site? If you happen to be in communications with him and he asks, please refer him to the contact form on our site (I rarely give out my primary email address to anyone - you're one of the very few who has it!).
jerett 09-12-2006, 04:43 PM Actually I spoke with Frank through the live chat. Not sure if he is the owner but spoke as if he was defending the content to some fashion as posted.
He is currently on their live chat. :D
(not sure what I did with the golden sacred email address for you - I have fallen from your grace)
the_pm 09-12-2006, 04:56 PM I have fallen from your graceHardly :)
I've sent them a Cease and Desist demanding they refrain from future infractions. They can respond to our abuse address.
Problem solved, it appears. I love a happy ending!
the_pm 09-12-2006, 05:02 PM And by the way, thank you very much for your help Jerett! I think I owe the speed of their response to your initiative to contact them about this issue. I appreciate it!
jerett 09-12-2006, 05:04 PM Excellent news. It is always great to see things like this get resolved. For another web design company to steal content from another web design company is wack. If they do it to their own site, just think what they grab and steal for their clients (if any).
I guess when you got it Paul - you got it and everyone wants it. Shake that money maker. (ummm - why I go there I just don't know)
Jamie Harrop 09-12-2006, 05:08 PM Thanks for the help Jerett.
I'm glad this one got resolved far faster than the last rip from our site. Here's to the next one in a few months time!
jerett 09-12-2006, 05:12 PM Your so right. The rips are getting out of hand - especially with the increase of interest in the net and having some sort of identity on it.
One thing about it - the content he ripped was the only thing done right on his site.
One Echo 09-12-2006, 05:16 PM They look quite differant to me. Erm could just be me though.
jerett 09-12-2006, 05:18 PM Read the text One Echo - the text is the issue. Its a direct steal from Equentity.
Jamie Harrop 09-12-2006, 05:19 PM I think this would be the perfect place to, yet again, recommend http://www.copyscape.com/
For those that don't know, it's a resource to find copies of content from a Web site of your choice. I usually run our properties through this service every few weeks to find anybody who is copying our content. Wonderful service!
jerett 09-12-2006, 05:25 PM Beautiful plug there Jamie. That is such a smooth tool and I would recommend it as well.
the_pm 09-12-2006, 05:30 PM I just got out of a chat with Frank.

Frank: Welcome to Live Help, how are you today?
Paul Hirsch: Hello Frank. I'm writing to confirm the Cease and Desist I sent through the NetRockers Web site was received.
Frank: I saw the websites where u have posted the threads ..
Paul Hirsch: If you could confirm receipt of the C&D, that would be most appreciated.
Frank: Firstly my website is still under heavy updation. and i chose your text coz it was very near to what was in my mind.
Paul Hirsch: Frank, I consider myself to be a fairly reasonable person. I think it is reasonable to say a line has been crossed, both legally and in terms of professional ethic, when one designer chooses to steal from another.
Paul Hirsch: While I appreciate that you liked my text, I also figured this was the case. Otherwise, you would not have stolen it.
Frank: The page is removed and the matter is solved.
Paul Hirsch: I also appreciate that you have removed the page. The Cease and Desist notification makes my expectations clear that no future theft will take place as well. I hope the matter is not only resolved between us, but is also resolved within yourself and your future design practices.
Paul Hirsch: I have nothing further to add. If there is anything else I should know, please share.
Frank: Sure man ... The content is removed and i assure u that it wont be used again. Its a good text. I really liked it. I didnt intend to hurt your business or anysuch thing .. Its just that I needed some content and I used it. Im not a theaf and never done this before ...
Paul Hirsch: Thank you. I'll take that as an apology and lesson learned, I hope. Best of luck with your future design efforts!
Frank: Thanx ....
So, that's that. We agree it was a rip. He's removed it, and he agrees not to do it again. I'm curious how long the rip was really there. Google cache goes back 12 days on it. Archive.org has nothing from them since 2005 (you can block archive.org from caching). I'm just curious how long this "temporary" text was there and would have stayed there, but I'll give them benefit of the doubt on this one, given their speedy response.
Good call Jamie. You are correct - copyscape found this one :)
jerett 09-12-2006, 05:37 PM Excellent update. Very nicely handled.
BigBison 09-12-2006, 08:47 PM I think Frank has missed the point, however. Equentity's ripped content has been removed, the point is that everyone's ripped content needs to be removed. Theirs too:
http://www.apollohosting.com/personalHosting.php
(compare to netrockers.com homepage)
Ya know, the next company may not be as nice as Paul about it, particularly after a public record like this exists warning someone not to steal others' content. It's plain to see that Net Rockers has received a C&D for this behavior, the next company might just start with a lawsuit. How many more companies have had their content ripped by Frank, I wonder?
marjory 09-17-2006, 03:33 PM fyi the company netrockers sucks. The were wack on so many levels. I host with them for over a year and the server would always go down periodically for weeks without any reason and they never gave reasons, responded to my inquiries. They apologized only once:

I hate Frank!!!
the_pm 09-26-2006, 02:18 PM How about that! He put the page right back up with our content on it
This is now in the hands of their upstream provider. I've had it with Netrockers crookedness.

Edit, so as not to bump.
I just got out of another chat with Frank. He's removed the content, again. He asked for my assistance with writing something, and I agreed to assist him. I know that sounds crazy, but maybe he's learned something, and maybe he'll learn some more. And maybe he'll leave our content alone!

Frank: Welcome to Live Help, how are you today?
Paul: Hello Frank. This is Paul Hirsch from Equentity LLC. I'm writing because I was under the impression we understood each other when we last discussed the use of our content.
Paul: http://www.netrockers.com/website-design.html
Frank: Hello. Let me check. Im sorry
Frank: I have removed the link to that page that day itself
Paul: And I found the page with my content on your site via search engines, which means you're still using my content, people still have access, and I remain very unimpressed.
Paul: That day you removed the page entirely. There is no reason why it should be online again unless it contains your own materials.
Frank: I have removed the link to that page.
Frank: Okay. I'll remove the contents.
Paul: I wasn't aware there was any question that this would take place in the first place. I would appreciate it greatly if you would do so right away. I'll remain in chat until I see it removed.
Frank: Sure... Im on it.
<< 5-10 minute break >>
Paul: I see you've removed it. Thank you.
Frank: yes.
Frank: I really like your content. I'll soon write my own content.
Frank: Can I have your email address ?
Frank: I'll email you when i update the content so that you can send me some suggestions and comments
Paul: I hope so. Again, I'm glad you like it, but, it's mine! Yes, I would be happy to assist you with putting together something original and compelling. I'm not unreasonable and I try to be helpful. I only insist my own work remains my own.
Paul: To make things easy, when you're ready, email me through << contact info removed >> and I'll jump into a conversation with you about what you're writing.
Frank: Yes. Im sorry for hurting you. I promise it wont happen again. Sure i will msg you soon.
Frank: Thats would be great help.
Paul: Please do, and thank you for your quick response.
Frank: :)
So, I'm going to give him a hand putting together his own content, because I'm $@!&$^* nice like that. Just some pointers and whatnot, but hopefully this means no more ripping.
Christina 09-26-2006, 03:52 PM Paul, it's never the end! You just have a way with words :stickout:

your helping crooks! :)
Actually I don't really care about them but they don't deserve the help of nice people. I don't host with them anymore I still get their emails just thought I'd display their randomness in case someone decides to host with them:

When will it be down? For how long? Will I lose my data? Netrockers sucks!!!
the_pm 09-27-2006, 08:47 AM the_pm
your helping crooks! :)As far as my own issue goes, he's made satisfactory amends (as long as I don't find my materials up on his site again). Besides, there are crooks much worse than this all over WHT - I'm sure I've helped plenty of them in the past :)
