View Full Version : Forum Software...
Santoman 06-12-2002, 08:04 AM Hi Folks -
I was wondering if someone could help me out with this one.
I am looking for a forum package that would work something similar to Yahoo Groups, where the information can be reached in a forum like this one, AND it will also send out the messages similar to a mailing list.
Thanks for any pointers you can provide....
Steve
ckpeter 06-12-2002, 08:14 AM It sounds like what you need is not a forum, but portal. You can check out phpnuke, postnuke (spin-out of phhnuke), ezpublish, and some others. Some of them have integration with other forum software, for example, phpnuke will integrate phpbb2.

LinuXpert 06-12-2002, 08:16 AM I never use YG so I don't know what they do but basing on what you want I think you can use any forum, just add some modifications to make your forum also send post's content to a mailing list at the same time it write to the database.
tazd9t9 06-12-2002, 08:28 AM it depends how you want the mail to be sent, most forums allow you to email all members, which you could turn into a newsletter i guess.
I know YabbSE has this function, VB has everything so i guess that does 2, i dont think invisionboard has it and im not sure about phpbb

I actually have postnuke running on 2 systems, and I love it, although just integrating with phpbb won't do what I want. I'd want phpbb to actually do the management of the forum information...
Thanks!

That's an interesting idea. I'll take a look, because I believe phpbb will allow you to mail all members. Don't know if it will do exactly what I want, but it might at least give me a starting point.
Thanks,
Steve
tagalaxy.net 06-12-2002, 09:05 AM from what i can gather...you are looking for a mailing list proggy with a web accessible archive, no?
if so, look around at HotScripts (http://www.hotscripts.com), they are bound to have what you're looking for :)

Oh yeah, good idea. Forgot about hotscripts! Thanks!
On thing, is that they need to be able to post from the web as well, not just access the archive...
