Sorry to bother everyone again. As I said I was using a local provider who will not let me install a board. I have gotten some good ideas on alternatives to UBB.

I am curious if anyone has used WestHost. They were listed in approved Unix hosts on Host Investigator, but you never know. Any opinions on them, especially first hand ones, appreciated.

According to those more accomplished than I, UBB uses far more resources on a system. The alternatives use mySQL/PHP combo that is more resource friendly.

Westhost is a good host. I have been with them for about a year. I will be closing up my site there by the summer, but not due to anything on their part. Their support is excellent!!

Westhost is quite good.
In 1998 I ever tried their services.
Worth to try for.

I have had an account with West Host for approximately two years. They are an excellent hosting company. In the time I have been with them, they have had almost 100% uptime. Once in a while they have a spell of being slow due to an overloaded server. It is difficult to figure out just how loaded their servers are since the "uptime" and "top" commands produce errors on my vritual server.

I feel that they have are a very good value. 25MB for $9/mon, 75MB for $16/mon, 150 MB for $20/mon . All these packages are conditional unlimited bandwidth, so you should read the policy fine print before you sign up. You mentioned wanting to put a message board on the host. If your message board takes up more thna 15% of server resources, you will probably be asked to leave. They preinstall a WWWboard message board on your account.

My disk space limit mysteriously changed form 25MB to 15MB a couple months ago, but I never bothered emailing them about it. Customer support is very good. They usually respond to emails in under 4 hours and their staff seems knowledgable. They do not have telephone technical support.

The web page http://manual.westhost.com/ gives additional information about what your account will be like, that is not found in the regular area.

If I were you, I would have converted to vbulletin when they come out with version 2. Lots of amazing features. Sorry for the offtopicness.
