Is ram of server important? How much RAM is needed depends on what will be running on the box, and the operating system. Linux boxes tend to do well on less RAM than Windows. 512 MB on a Linux box whose intent is to be a web server should do well depending on the type of sites being hosted. Most of our parent companies web servers are 768 MB and 1,024 MB. Ping and network times are not related to ram and cpu i/o but if you have to mix both of them together the answer is: 512 ram why the better network, will always keep your clients and the cash flow. so as the cashflow improves you will be able to afford the upgrades. mike nba2003 06-12-2002, 04:53 AM but I think quality server can provide quality service. But if you run lots of CGI, then more RAM is going to help. There is also the question of how much better the ping time and how much cheaper the server. RAM only plays into factor if you are doing lots of processing. Most providers will throw some more RAM in a server for you (you'll just have to pay the diffrence), but they can't upgrade their network so easily.
