Auctions are just better version of classifieds.

In the economy of supply & demand, it makes sense to create a system where buyers bid for the highest price they are willing to afford and hence the seller gets a better deal.

Adsense uses it. Ebay is a hit. Later on, we might be seeing everything sold based on auctions, be it stadium Worldcup tickets, Friday night movies, weekends romantic dinner.

Therefore my question is, are the concept of Classfieds dying?

I was going to create a classifieds for my local area, but then thought otherwise. Auction is better.

Classifieds dying? I don't think so - at least not in my area (San Jose, California).

Craigslist is huge over here. In fact, there's only really two places I purchase non-computer hardware related items - eBay and Craigslist. I prefer ebay for the protection, but sometimes when you can't find it on ebay, craigslist as it.

I'm not sure about other areas, but I do know Craigslist keeps growing and growing, expanding to new cities all the time.

Yeah, you ought to have some things to auction at your site first. Perhaps, you can try offering free service, and let the traffic come.

So why do you think people still love Craiglist or any other classifieds?

1. Sellers should prefer auctions because they can get the best price
2. In case of buyers 50-50. Half might like the joy of bidding, the other half might like a quick transaction in classfieds.

And talking about protection, classfieds can provide too, if they want.

Also, if I set the BIN in auction to the Starting Price, does it make it a classfieds?
