Which is more reliable, faster, etc? (Stephen) 06-11-2002, 03:48 AM I have 174 days uptime on a customer p75 dial-up router, with a load average of 0.01%, it even runs a few CGI scripts for changing settings on it. FreeBSD under the hood with an Apple GUI on top of it! the best of both world. we ran some custom rendering program in genetics on our SGIs and Linuxes. we recompiled for OS X and that baby kicked ass: a 3K G4 powerbook titanium was twice as fast as the 13K SGI.... the IT guy was shaking his head in disbelief:D Gadgy 06-11-2002, 07:11 PM Linux. Yes, it is FreeBSD kernel. They are employing some of the best FreeBSD hackers. They once considered Linux but they are not allowed to proprietarize it. |
