Hello,

We are currently looking to fill a remote tech position for the hours of 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. PST Monday - Friday. We currently run cpanel as the control panel on all of our virtual hosting accounts. We are moving into dedicated servers soon and would like to offer plesk as the default control panel. Therefore we would like to find a support tech that is quite familiar with the administration of a plesk server. It would be beneficial if the person had some experience with cpanel, but we are willing to train in that area. This will be a remote tech position so you are able to work from your home. All support calls are handled through our support desk. Responsibilities would include, but are not limited to

- Answering sales question
- System admin
- Help clients with site troubles (uploading, email, debugging scripts, front page extensions, etc)

programming experience would also be beneficial.

We do require that you are fluent in ssh, ftp, installing scripts, and dns troubleshooting.

We are looking for someone that is able to work well in a team environment. We aren't necessarily looking for a single individual that can do everything themselves.

If you are interested in this position, please send a resume to owner@100megswebhosting.com. Please include all applicable experience and skills. We would also like you to include the number of words per minute that you are able to type. If you aren't currently sure of your typing speed, please visit http://www.careerstep.com/typeintro.html and take the test to find out your speed. Please only take the test once and send us in your results along with the resume. If you have a desired wage, please include that in the application so that we can consider it.

Just remember that most of us here probably won't even type that fast when just normally chatting. This is a test, and almost all of us strive for the best and push our little fingers to the limits.

Test Results:
Gross Words Per Minute (GWPM): 92
Net Words Per Minute (NWPM): 92

Normal WPM:
Gross Words Per Minute (GWPM): 62
Net Words Per Minute (NWPM): 62

And that is using my laptop. I'm normally much quicker when using a regular keyboard (my last typing test I did 85wpm on a laptop keyboard and 120wpm on a regular keyboard).

Hmm.. I sat staring at the screen wondering what to do for about 45 seconds.
Gross words per minute - 0

No need to contact me for the job. But I have seen some pretty well qualified people that would have failed the typing speed test, and some worthless techs who would pass it with flying colors. Seems to me like this test will indicate nothing but the amount of hoops your willing to jump through to get the job. The more hoops like this, the less I would want to hire you.

Its amazing what you'll do when your sitting around job hunting all day.

Yup,

Basically we are just trying to weed out the applications where the typing speed would have a serious impact on performance. I have hired tecks in the past only to find out they type 10-20 words per minute. Even if they are quite knowledgable this can serverely impact the performance as it can take many minutes to just send a simple reply. Personally I think that anything above the 30-40 mark is more than sufficient for the position.

I also wanted to appologize for the delay in getting back to people regarding this. It ended up beeing quite a busy week and I haven't had a chance to look through the resume's yet. I'm also going to be out of town from friday till wednesday. I'll should be getting back to people next week regarding this though.

Average typing speed is 40 WPM. A high typing speed is 60 WPM.

A think a tech in real work (not typing a text he reads above a box) will type at about 30 WPM.

Those who went over 90 WPM must be taking the test in a sprint. I don't believe anyone would type that fast for a 2-page long text.

Here is my score:
Gross Words Per Minute (GWPM): 59
Net Words Per Minute (NWPM): 58

I wasn't on a sprint, I was just typing at the speed I normally type text.

(Wasn't appliying for the job)

Some people have too much time on their hands....

Anyway, to the person that got:

Gross Words Per Minute (GWPM): 1159
Net Words Per Minute (NWPM): 1062

hahah this is not a copy-paste competiiton...

The max you can get is:

Gross Words Per Minute (GWPM): 136
Net Words Per Minute (NWPM): 136

If you copy-paste a text other than the one presented you can get higher numbers. For example I copied and pasted an article I was writting in another editor and reached numbers about that high :)

Well, not sure they will hire me just because I can manage how to copy-paste a multi-megabytes file in there :P
