it is still slow now.

And we're back. :)

If you had trouble connecting earlier, it's because you couldn't get to here from there.

At approxamately 9:30 EST time we had a hardware failure in our load balancer that caused our entire cluster to be down. Our fileup melted.

The issue has been resolved. Thanks for your patience! :)

During the outage you could have went to WHTIRC and got your fix then! :wht:

You should be saying

Yaaa your back!!

LOL its not like they are our supplier and have to keep it up and apparently I am hooked on this place as I was checking over and over and my wife commented that I was cranky today.

WHT withdrawal.

Nope, nameservers were down - couldn't resolve it.

You had to do a bit of pokin', but there were no issues with IRC. You couldn't use the applet, you had to use a real IRC client and had to connect to 207.44.225.199. :)

At first I thought my computer was having problems. After few minutes of digging, then I know WHT is down. But that's abit rare for me to find WHT down... :D

Happy that WHT is up again...

I can't find it in zone-h

I did see it earlier in attacks on hold, Perhaps it was just someone trying to claim credit

It took pretty long for Rackspace to fix that, no?

I thought it was 100% uptime?

round up! silly!

no one has perfect 100% uptime.

linux-tech
09-02-2006, 07:40 PM
I thought it was 100% uptime?

THAT would be network downtime. This wasn't a "network" issue, it was a hardware issue with WHT's hardware (the load ballancer) as described by SWR ;)

Don't get me wrong, I still doubt (very highly) the 100% uptime, but this one doesn't fall under that specific guarantee ;)

You need some redundant nameservers, and don't you have a pair of redundant loadbalancers??

I am very surprised at Rackspace, I know for a company the size of Inet I would expect better.

Why 6 hours to fix it? Rackspace drop the ball? Something else complicate the restore?

Mee too.. I feel that I should sue you guys....

because of this downtime, my dog refused to eat food, I have to spent rather kill time at some other forums which for sure was mentally taxing and harassing.

Dont you guys understand this damn WHT is bloody addictive and such failure could be fatal....

I am going to send a notice to all of you...including me:mad:

surprised to see 6 hour downtiime with rackspace.

Linn_Boyd
09-02-2006, 10:38 PM
Everyone has failures no matter who it is. We build so that we can minimize the risks, but everyone has situations where downtime does happen. They may have taken a long time, but don't beat on Inet that bad.

I think the 6 hours was because a certain important person was "off" probably ended up talking people through it on the phone :)

Why 6 hours to fix it? ....I believe it was because, for the first seven hours or so, they didn't know what was wrong. :S

Better give them a refresher course in clustered load balanced scenarios.

How'd the Rackspace 100% uptime guarantee go? :)This was a hardware issue with INET's servers, and not a rackspace network issue.

I believe it was because, for the first seven hours or so, they didn't know what was wrong. :SIt happens. Sometimes hardware issues can be tricky to quickly track down. :eek3:

well, i've only been with RS for a month but have had 100% uptime. If I had a hardware failure that took 6hrs to get back up I could stomach that. I was at a well known host before rackspace and had a 2 day outage over hardware failure then 1hr a day for like a week. as for some stats rackspace handled 9,300+ tickets last month with 70+% rated by their userbase as "fanatical support" and 95+% rated as fanatical support or good (good = 1 level below fanatical). I've worked big helpdesks before and we could never get over 70% satisfaction, 95+% is insane if you ask me.. No host is perfect but I'll put my money with the one who gets closest..

Yup. I figured if WHT couldn't be bothered to show up for work, then why should I? I caught two trout. OK, sure they're little.. but it was still fun.

When I got home, WHT was back at work and I felt a little guilty.. so I sent them one of the fish.
