View Full Version : Choosing a host -> eServers.biz or Nocster?

Chris Marks

I have decided to make the jump to dedicated webhosting. I am however stuck between which host to choose. I have narrowed it down to eServers.biz and Nocster.

They both seem to have good benefits for each option, as far as plans go, but how about service?

Can you please provide any of your experiences with either of these companies as far as support, server speed, connection speed, reliability, etc?

Thanks so much!

Been with eServers for 8 months.

Speed from UUnet: 1.5MB/s even at peak time
Internal Speed - server to server: 10MB/s

Had some network problems which were promptly resolved last month. It is not un-common for any company to have problems but they solved them fast.

Tech support: MSN, ICQ and AOL support - support team great and you get more than you pay for.

Reliability: It would be 100% uptime if it was not for me tweaking things here and there on the servers I have.

Haven't had any experience with Nocster but IPS are free at eServers with justification and hardware upgrades are one time fees not monthlys which can put your monthlys up.

The choice is yours!

I do like the one time charge for upgrades at eservers, but at Nocster I also like their lower costs for cpanel. Hmm, but eServers seems to be cheaper in the long run. Anyone else?

BurtonHost

cPanel is cheaper at Nocster because the maker works for burstNET (Nocster parent)

I can't speak on service becuase I am looking at the same questions also but here are some diffrences I see between the 2.

eServers.biz

There setup is $0

Super Internal Cooling for Maximum Reliability! Intel Pro/100+ 10/100Mpbs Fast Ethernet Port
network uses multiple redundant connections and BGP to ensure 100% uptime of the network. We also have in place a unique firewall to ensure server security.

offer FREE hardware upgrades after 6-7 months of initial rental
Total monthly including Cpanel and WHM 228.00
One time Upgrade Fees :) Even a option for Upgrade to Dual proc's
They do have managed dedicated servers but no prices listed

Nocster

Managed Dedicated severs
Setup 299.00-399.00 on the latest setups.
Intel Pentium 4™ 1.5Ghz
512MB PC133/DDR SDRAM
60GB IDE Hard Drive
300GB Bandwidth
5 IP Addresses
Monthly fee including Cpanel and WHM around 139.00
But a Remote Reboot ports is 49.95 setup and 19.95 a mth

from what I was told everything is install Sql , Php Etc

I know I didnt compare everything and some might say it's a apples to oranges comparision.

I would love to hear from some eServers.biz customers and Nocster customers

customer of either, however I do have a server at tranxactglobal which is partners with eservers.biz in the DV2 center. I have had a couple of cpanel issues and eservers has helped me out and offered great advice and support as have the tech's in the data center.

I looked at nocster and was even considering them for my next server, what turned me away tho is that I am asked many times by possible clients and resellers where my server is located. I like to be honest and tell them, if you tell them nocster they can go to their web site and buy virtual hosting for $4.00 a month. I do not want to have to compete direct with my upstream provider, that may make no dif to you but to me it does.

My opinion, go with eservers, check out their forum all the customers seem to be very happy there. And as I said they have been a great help to me.

Good service, nice people.

So then what is the difference between eServers' unmanaged server and Nocster's managed? Is it just a matter of how much they will help you with problems on your server?

I'm not too concerned about the ability for someone on my server to go to nocster and see their hosting cost, simply because this will only be for my sites.

Could any Nocster customer's share some experiences?

seem to have a deal too good to be true! The first question that comes to mind is...What is the connectivity to the server? (10Mb/s or 100Mb/s...or perhaps 56Kb/s). Then I start to wonder, how can they offer such high traffic for such low cost? I have seen the cost for DS3's on a monthly basis from GlobalCrossing, AT&T, and other providers, and they charge more than these companies. The only explanation I can think of is that they expect their clients will not use that amount of traffic and they are either throttling the traffic or it's just an advertising gimmick. (who are their providers?)

I don't know if any of you can remember back in the day when everybody was offering unlimited this and unmetered that....but this smells fishy to me. Are these company's operating at a profit or a loss? Anyone asked to check their books?

If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Maybe they are just trying to get a whole bunch of clients and then they'll sell the company....as the invisible ink fades from the financial documents and the new owner jacks the prices or goes bankrupt.

Maybe I'm just nuts

Well, I got a good deal with Nocster on a 1.6 ghz server -> so I guess I am set. Thanks everyone for your help.

I would recommend Nocster to anyone interested in a good dedicated server, atleast from my experience thus far. I will let you know how everything goes.

Also if you think Nocster servers will be faster because the are BurstNET servers...thing again. The servers for nocster are hooked up to less/cheaper providers than they use for the BurstNET servers.

I have 2 servers with eServers.biz and love them both.
One is a P3 1ghz, 512mb ram, 2x40gb HDs and cpanel... the other is a dual P3 1.13ghz Tautalin (or whatever it is called), 1gb ram, 2x40gb HDs and cpanel.

No downtime since I have had both servers (about 5 and 2 months) - very reliable!

I've been with Eservers for two months and I found them to be very helpful. Shazad is available on ICQ most of the time and he always solved problems for me without any delay. Today the staff in the datacenter responded to both of my emails within 30 minutes when I had problem with my SSHD configuration and needed them to login to the server locally and change something for me.

I don't have any experiences with Nocster before but one thing for sure is you will love Eservers.biz for sure.

Without a doubt we here at SurrenderOnline will buy all our new servers once again with Eservers.biz.

We have a few now and they have been working like a charm *Knock on wood*:smash:

There support is amazing, fast, reliable and they actually dont have to mess around and toss you of to someone else. The person you talk to is the person that will solve your problem or answer your query.

2 thumbs up for these guys and i would recommend them to anyone that needs a * Good * Solution for a leased servers.

Kind regards,

I also have a tranxact server. Does eservers really support tranxact servers as well? Awesome if they do. The dv2 guys are awesome, but I hear terrific things about the eservers guys.

One reservation I have about Nocster is their prohibition on any and all types of adult content. Although, as a reseller, I don't cater to adult sites, I've always found restrictions like that intrusive and even a bit deceitful. I say deceitful because I usually find that those companies don't ban adult sites out of moral or legal reasons - they simply don't like customers actually using the bandwidth that they advertise.

In the case of Nocster, I wonder how long you can pump out 300 GB with a $99 server before they start to inspect every site for adult content and try to upsell you to their adult hosting site, Unrestricted.Net - where 250 GB costs you $560...

panopticon
06-12-2002, 03:30 AM
On the other hand, if you're using the dedicated server for your own site and it is not an adult site, maybe it would mean a less loaded more responsive network?

Oh, and I just got a response from Nocster (emailed them a few hours ago asking about their SCSI server) with a response time of about 3-4 hours to a sales inquiry = pretty good considering it's the middle of the night. He answered all of my specific questions and I liked the answers as well.

In the SCSI server if you want a larger drive you can get a 36 GB scsi drive for $100 more setup and $10 more per month. And you can have up to 3 additional SCSI drives in that server.

He also said the max Ram is 2 GB in that server, the motherboards are ASUS, TYAN, and TUSI (haven't had good luck with Tyan myself - much better luck with Intel and Supermicro - and who is Tusi?) and the SCSI hard drives are 10K IBM, Fujitsu, and Seagate.

We have 1 server with eservers.biz and are very happy with the network performance and quality of service we have reveived from these guys. We ordered another server last week ( almost a week ago ) and havent gotten it yet, but I guess they have there hands full with P.M. I would definatly go for eservers.biz

The NOCSTER servers are Asus, Tyan, and Intel.
99% of them are Asus, with some of the closeout servers being older Intel or Tyan systems. TUSI is just a Asus model # we use for some of the systems that have proved extremely reliable.

Actually, we've added a new network admin this week, and will be adding more weekend staff in about a week.

Thanks for your support, our main focus currently, is the upgrades to the network we are performing now, and faster tech support.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that - the response I got was very good by the way (except that I didn't know what TUSI was) - it is very nice to get each and every one of your questions answered (and I asked a bunch) unlike when you ask questions of some other hosts. The only single reservation I have now is the bandwidth quality vs. eservers and rackshack - even though Quest is thought to be very good, I've had some problems with them in the past, and cogent, well, I like their prices and I hope they continue to get better, but it is a tad slower than the others so the more premimum bandwidth the better...

My server with Nocster was set up in a little less than 15 hours. Everything has been running smoothly since then. I had a question about a cgi-bin, and sent them a support ticket -> it was answered in only a few hours. The response wasn't a simple, 'it's fixed' either, it was a rather nice indepth explanation of the problem I was having as well as how to fix it in the future. Nocster has been a great company to deal with, and are worth every cent.

Just ordered another server with eservers... I know I won't regret it - Support / responses from these guys is truly amazing - I keep saying this but it really is....

I have had reponses to tickets for a couple of issues answered and even fixed for me before I could even think.....within minutes - you will not regret getting a server with these guys.

Well done eservers

Yes, I've had the same experience with tranxactglobal. They have never taken more than 15 minutes to respond to a trouble ticket. That's pretty amazing. I don't submit trouble tickets often, but it's nice to know when I do, they get answered quickly and with good answers.

i signed ordered a server with nocster and here is what i found:

1) the order was filled within 24 hours as promised
2) there have been absolutely NO issues with the server since it went online
3) network uptime is superb so far
4) network speed is fantastic as well
5) the price of the server was a pittance compared to comparable machines elsewhere ... and it is a quality machine too !

i give nocster a BIG 2 THUMBS UP!

Solely in regards to number 1)... I've been waiting 52 hours (scarily on the dot at time of posting this) for the server I ordered. Disgruntled customer would be an adequate description.....there is potential for me moving towards anger if I hear nothing from them (I've initiated contact twice on AIM) within the next 12 hours.

Once/If the server comes online, I'll give my honest opinions of the state of play in regards to the other issues raised :)

Was this a 1 time fee, or added to the monthly?

I honestly would of considered it as long as it didn't up the monthly fee.
