Alright,

I have a site on Brinkster, which I have fallen in love with. No ads, lots of room, and free hosting. But there is limited bandwidth per day.

Does anyone know of another host with the following?:
- unlimited bandwidth
- html editor
- no ads
- free hosting
In otherwords, the perfect host... I know... lol

If there are any who could help it would be much appreciated. :)

I was examing their business model after I heard that they were both add free and cost nothing. They are offering free services with the hopes that you will eventually sign up for a paid account.
Not bad, but could be costly to them in the long run.

Remember the old saying "you get what you pay for". I wouldnt put up any important stuff on a site that I hosted there.

Just my opinion.

hee hee... I know, they SHOULD have a free car in there too!

I know, it was a long shot, but that's alright. If Brinkster's as good as it gets I'll stick with them.. Other than occasionally slow servers and the bandwidth problem, I'm more than happy. :)

Merci muchos for the aid anyway,

This is quite hard to believe, but this is actually a functional business model, either that or there are peopel in this world that can sustain a lot of loss.

Here is nother example of a company using a similar business tactic. http://www.redrival.com. I know this has been around for some time.

The reason I am asking is I wanted to see what a "free-car" site looks like (what kind of car do they give anyway?). Alas, it said "bandwidth reached, surf back after midnight and we might let you sneak a peak". Have I reached an unexplored fold of underground internet or is there some intricate formula estimating traffic based on an arcane model of potential revenue this site would bring if the owner signed up for a paid package in the next 18 months (from a user's standpoint that's *if* its traffic ireached a high enough number to justify a paid account)?

I know doteasy.com offers your own domain and webspace for 25 a year (You get like 20megs, and 1gig bandwith). Its better the nothing or you could use your ISP's webspace (its also bannerless)? Check with you internet service provider to see what they have to offer you. I know most ISP's do have hosting. I use earthlink & america online but they do offer webhosting for free.

A friend of mine offered a suggestion to reduce the problem of a maxxed out bandwidth, but I'm not sure if it would work.

Place the images in another account and link to them, leaving only the code in your main account.

I know this is hosting site's worst nightmare (and what GeoCities and AngelFire have fought against), but would this actually reduce bandwidth used per visit?

PS. Sorry Chicken, thanks for the info. ;)
Damn newbie.. oh wait... that's me... lol

Yes that would work. My only other suggestion would be to check out the special offers forum. Hosts will occasionally offer free hosting to build up your initial customer base. You could get lucky.

I suppose its a good idea to offer this in the hope of eventually signing up for a paid account, but if you offer unlimited bandwidth then most of the time there is nothing more a person wants and the percentage of people that have free hosting with you far outweigh the people that pay for their hosting with you.

hope that makes sense :)
