I'm looking for an excellent host with very large data transfert, PHP4 + MySQL. Can you help me please ?
Thank you very much :)
>> Hello to the 300 000 french who are living and working in england !
It doesn't matter where your host is based
For example if you live in england you are able to signup for a host that are in the US

Some do I agree but then so do some of the USA hosts. It's the same with any industry, the is always the good the bad and the down right ugly ;)
janderk 06-10-2002, 06:21 AM It does not matter where you live for hosting. I'm located in the Netherlands and have hosted my sites in the USA now for years, because you get much more for less money.
And for the question: who are the best hosts in the World I would say:
1) www.futurequest.net
2) www.pair.com
They are not the cheapest, but if your site is important, they are more than worth it.

You're right but isn't it better if my host is not too far ? Is the distance quite important ?

Not me of course :D But the "net surfers" of my site (they will be in England and France).
janderk 06-10-2002, 07:28 AM Visitors of your site won't notice it either. Hosting your site in the USA will roughly add 100ms (= 0.1 second) to the response time, which no one will notice. It's much more important that your host has good connections and speedy (non overloaded) servers. I also cannot remember the last time transatlantic connections were down.
It's easy to check out off course: just visit a few US sites (especially the hosts were you might want to go) and decide for yourself if they are fast enough.

Well, I thought it was better to have a host not too far from visitors.
Ok, so do you know very very good host in US ? (the price is not the most important, I want quality, quality and quality :) )
janderk 06-10-2002, 08:08 AM I already posted 2 links above but if you need quality my recommendation is go with FutureQuest (http://www.futurequest.net). They are not the cheapest, but if your site is important there's no better place to host it. I did a lot of research to find the best host and they are it. Just try to ask them a question a 4am at night. Never ever did I get a response in less than 15 minutes.
The only disadvantage is that if you require MYSQL you need the Gold Package which might be expensive if you have a low traffic site.
Just visit the FutureQuest forum (http://www.aota.net/forums/) for more info.

Hmm, a bit of a sweeping statement really, I can find plenty of people that would disagree with that statement.
As for the location of your host in ralation to your visitors, it only really makes a difference if you are doing something like streaming, large downloads etc. and your visitors are on broadband.
Thanx for your answers, it help me to find a good host. :)
Janderk, Futurequest seems to be really great and very honest, I like that ! Thank you.
