What you all think about the New XTR?

PIII processors and 2 GB of Mem. 4 HD's I think Sun seems to be jam packing this one and the price is about the same as a RAQ4r!!!

But I have a question can these Control pannels be installed and work correctly on cobalt servers?

i.e. Cpanel3 and the others

It doesn't make sense to install cpanel or plesk, etc. on these servers. Short answer, no. The linux OS that is tweaked by Cobalt would probably crash and burn.

If you want Cpanel, I'd just get a typical linux server and install it on that server (not sure what cpanel requires, if anything, for an install).

What you are asking is-

If I buy a Mac, can I install Win98 on it? It would just make more sense to start with a Win98 machine, you know.

There were also some past discussions about the XTR (if you search you'll find them), in case you are insterested.

Unless I missed something, and the XTR does not come with the typical RaQ OS installation and CP administration tools. If so, ignore everything I've said. :)

Well my little (point on little) brain was wondering if you could. I don't think much of the RAQ's CP. But I like the others alot better. The last time I was on a cobalt was back in 1999 until early 2000 I think it was a RAQ3 don't really remember but everything was switched out to the Albanza CP and recently I am on the Cpanel3.

I'm not a lunix person but I thought Lunix was a OS in which the RaqQ CP operated in, even the RAQ3 is Lunix. <scratch> so I am lost on the OS conflict.

Oh the XTR Search didn't produce anything unless I am using the search wrong <shrugs>. Might have been deleted err something.

One of the reasons I was happy to see the news about the XTR being released: Cheaper RaQ4s.

Hopefully. :look:

I've seen RAQ4i around $2,200 :) or that was the 4r dun remember. I think the Raq3 is down to $1200.00. Yep I think the price will drop even more give it a couple months for the word to spead and the price should lower.

Well, here's my point. If you want to install cpanel on a server, then you don't want to do it on a RaQ (better to do it on any other 1U server). Maybe you aleady own one and want to modify it, then I understand. The RaQ does run linux, but it is modified.

thanx Chicken, what I needed to know. Don't you hate when you spend 17 years on a OS (Dos-Windows) and then try to learn a different one (Lunix).

There's some rather easy sites that have some of the basic commands:

-enough to get you going at least.

It took me six months to stop typing "dir" (and start typing "ls"). Now when I need a DOS prompt it works the other way.
