I have been looking at Whois.Cart() (http://whoiscart.net/) as a possible shopping cart to handle my domains / hosting registration on my site.

The cost also works out quite good.

I would like to know your opinion on the same.
Have you used it?
What are the troubles you faced?
How was their support?

Do you recommend another shopping cart instead of this?

A few lacking features of Whois.Cart() according to me:

1. You cannot sell anything another than hosting and domain like web design, ssl etc.(it's no imposible but it's hard).
2. You cannot upgrade an account before the expration date (it's no imposible.
But if you make it before the expration date when it doesn't create an invoice or you cannot create invoices manually).
3. it doesn't include a help desk.

Their email support is good but slow. Also you can find a lot of information on their forums. Whois.Cart() is more easy to setup and use and cheaper software than others.

Having used it for over a year, my recommendation is don't use it.

The two biggest issues I have are; it keeps the Credit Card number on record (a definite security problem), it does not provide the Domain name within the eMail payment you receive. The first is an online Banking violation and the second is such a pain for easy record keeping.

There are much better Billing scripts available and, although pricing is higher, the features are worth it.

I don't have a very large budget unfortunately, as I am just starting up.

P.S. I don't have Zend on my current host, so I don't think I will be able to run Whois.cart()

Its not an online banking violation anywhere that I know of. CVV numbers are though.

Tell me one billing script that does recurring billing and doesnt store the cc card.

I tried using it once and it had major problems with the whois servers.

LOL, now thats funny when its called Whois.cart

I tried it about a year and a half ago and I am sure its advanced since then, but I wasnt to impressed. There are much better alternatives out there. But to each his own.

Webberzone, using any Billing script is not a step that should be taken lightly. Many of us spent weeks or months, searching for the one that provided features we were looking for. Then there is the setup & customization of the script itself.

If you can handle at least, a one-time cost of $140 - $180 USD, you can get an excellent Billing script. If not there are scripts you pay monthly for. Forget which Forum here has some excellent posts on scripts but if you search WHT using 'billing', I'm sure you'll find many to choose from.

No, that's not really true. According to the PCI standards, if you store the credit card, it has to be encrpyted and on a separate server that is not connected directly to the Internet.

Thank you for your suggestion. I too am thinking about it rathe seriously. In addition to the script will also come the cost of SSL certificates and so my choice will have to be a careful one.

Which one are you currently using and how easy do you find it?

We currently use WHM AutoPilot v2 & v3. Still use WhoisCart but phasing it out.

No matter what script is used, there is a learning curve involved for; setup, customizing, maintaining, and using - both for you and your Clients. That's why it's best to spend the time in researching because once you get started using one specific script, it can be a hassle to switch to another.

We purchased 3 different scripts for testing and WHM AutoPiliot has won out for the time being. Being in Canada, though, we are limited to what scripts we can use -- not all work with Canadian Merchant accounts.

And no matter what Billing script is used, odds are support will be somewhat lacking and a lot will have to be learned through trial & error. Gotta love this Web stuff. ;)
