View Full Version : Rackshack down?
ckpeter 06-09-2002, 02:17 PM Never thought I would be one starting such thread, but
did anyone else noticed that rackshack.net seems incredibly slow? My SSH connections to the server just die in the middle, and traceroute and ping to rackshack's network doesn't do well either.
Could this be the new GIG-E line that they are bring in?

(Stephen) 06-09-2002, 02:26 PM 7,157.130.155.234,480ms,savvis-dfw-gw.customer.ALTER.NET,----
that is the last hop I can hit, and its dog slow!
Not sure if that is what you wanted or not, but yes, they seem to be down.
vibehosts 06-09-2002, 02:28 PM They sure are down, their site isn't working for me:rolleyes:
TimPD 06-09-2002, 02:30 PM RackShack is down WOW...
ckpeter 06-09-2002, 02:31 PM I never thought I would have the honor (or horror?) of posting such a thread.
Any one has any news on what's happening? Is this the new GIG-E line?
Peter
vibehosts 06-09-2002, 02:32 PM I've been told cogent is down
anders 06-09-2002, 02:33 PM and my sites are still working :)
/a.
(Stephen) 06-09-2002, 03:06 PM Only prob with cogent being down is i have never had any trace go through cogent from here. Im in the dallas area, it hasnt been going cogent.
The Prohacker 06-09-2002, 03:23 PM The last hop I can get to is:
14 207.173.115.74 290ms 270ms 280ms TTL: 0 (a4-0-0--171.gw01.hsto.eli.net ok)
pip235 06-09-2002, 03:28 PM working fine here, i'm on attbi, going to rackshack thru verio.
(Stephen) 06-09-2002, 03:32 PM working for everyone again now? I got it here.
trace is going through savvis on near the last hop, that isnt ev1.

ckpeter 06-09-2002, 04:02 PM Ok, my server is up again. Looks like everything is fine now.
Hopefully there will be an explanation on what happened.
Peter
BrianF 06-09-2002, 07:50 PM I wish that happened with RackSpace while I don't have many clients, I'd have about 20% of my fee refunded right now.
--Brian
(joking of course)
panopticon 06-09-2002, 10:54 PM <g> if RackSpace was down and you got a refund then you would only be paying about 90% more still ;)
Of course, if they were down for long enough that they had to give a meaningful refund, you might as well switch to somewhere cheaper too.
I wonder what happened - looking at their network graphs today, it appears *all* of their connections were down at the same time with two interruptions.
ckpeter 06-09-2002, 10:56 PM I am also wondering what happened. There has been no annocement in the forum, and the interesting thing is, no other rackshack user started any discussion on the downtime either.
Peter
viGeek 06-10-2002, 01:07 AM I am also wondering why the outage occured. Maybee we will hear something monday :)
iamdave 06-10-2002, 01:26 AM According to easy monitor my site hasn't been down, but then again, it may not have caught it.
panopticon 06-10-2002, 05:33 AM Since not a lot of people were down it sounds like it must have been a problem which affected only a small portion of their network with some customers' servers and their own server which logs the MRTG data. Otherwise I'm sure we would have heard more by now.
ho247 06-10-2002, 08:14 AM Have there been any official announcements for this downtime, as it seems a quite major from their graphs?
Is this due to their new lines coming in? Maybe someone dropped a wrench into the routers or something when adding the new lines? :)
Alan
bacid 06-10-2002, 10:44 AM only some subnets were down.
my 2 boxes weren't affected.
according to the techs on irc their NOC was aware of the issue.. thats the only "official" announcement ive seen
ho247 06-10-2002, 11:10 AM Actually, come to think of it... my boxes were fine too yesterday, lol.

vibehosts 06-10-2002, 05:59 PM Rackshack.net is down for me again today. Maybe its just me
ho247 06-11-2002, 02:16 AM Might just be you. :)... looing at their network graphs, everything has been running smoothly since the last downtime. Just wondering when they're going to release the graph for the new gigabit link and also those new servers.
Alan
(Stephen) 06-11-2002, 02:23 AM Actually, the graph is now showing the Time Warner link did drop, at least if I am reading the very edge of that image right.

Yes, I concur amd_duron... it's showing a drop right at the end now, but the network was fine when vibehosts was asking :). These downtimes on certain lines must be due to the new providers coming in... but anyone want to confirm that?
Alan
vibehosts 06-11-2002, 10:20 AM I disagree, you guys posted hours and hours after I claimed them being down and they were down I asked 5 different people. Of coarse hours after I saw them being down they were back up
Thank you
