He is a nobody and a shadow of what he used to be. The reason people like him is because of what he used to be like, sorry those days have gone. Lewis is a class fighter and showed it time and time again. I dont think Tyson can beet him even if they have 50 fights. Tyson has had his day and its time to just retire JMD 06-09-2002, 09:20 AM Lewis is a class fighter I can't agree more. Tyson is an animal he has proven time and time again that his elavator dosn't go all the way to the top floor. :) JayC 06-09-2002, 02:12 PM Originally posted by clocker1996 i personally wanted tyson to win I wanted Tyson to lose, because I want him to finally retire and go away. Also, because I had money on Lewis. :) I was watching in a room with about 18 people, who at the start seemed to be about 50-50 in who they wanted to win, but there were three or four of us who were adamantly backing Lewis and one loudly backing Tyson -- because, he said, Tyson's a New Yorker (as were all of us). After a few rounds, of course, most of those middle-of-road undecided people were starting to back Lewis, and there was a big cheer when Tyson finally went down. It was a good, entertaining fight, really, even though after the third round it was pretty clear how it was going to go. Smart fight by Lewis, taking advantage of his reach advantage to keep Tyson from getting inside. As Tyson tired (quickly, as usual) Lewis' left jab rarely missed, and he was so much quicker that every time Tyson tried to make a move that jab was there keep him out. After about the fourth round it was clear that the only way Tyson could win would be by knockout, but while he started each subsequent round aggressively trying to move inside where he might have a chance at it, Lewis was continually much quicker, much more fresh, and continually scoring points. So that was the approach: stay away from Tyson's punch, use the reach advantage to win rounds, and if it goes 12, take the decision. But more likely, just as it happened: wait til the later rounds when Tyson would be behind on points and tiring, and look for the knockout opportunity. By the way, I was really surprised how many people thought Tyson would win... some, who should know better, for pretty silly reasons. The sportscaster on one local tv station made a prediction before the fight that Tyson would win because "I think he just wants it more. Lewis has been the champion for a few years now and I don't think he'll have the determination to win that Mike Tyson has." Huh? You're a sportscaster, you should pay some attention to what's happening in sports... for example, to Lewis' repeated statements about his "legacy." Lewis wanted to win because he saw this fight as firmly establishing him as "the best fighter in the world." Tyson, reportedly nearly broke and unable to fight practically anywhere else in the country, just needed the fight... and the purse. Certainly that doesn't mean he didn't want to win, but to argue that the fight could be decided because Tyson "wants it more" is just silly. They'll let anybody be a sportscaster these days. WCSWEB 06-09-2002, 02:35 PM I think that they are both good fighters but I think that tyson last night was not in the mood :D to fight he was going to get paid 20mil regardless so it didn't matter to him. I think that in the rematch people will see tyson back to himself again. I'm not saying that one is better then the other but tyson did not put up a fight last night. Sean 06-09-2002, 03:02 PM I saw the ending... I paid like 55.00 for it on Satellite, and then I got hooked on some movie.. lol.. He's an animal, he can't abide by the rules, he's a convicted rapist and shouldn't be allowed to box. He's past it and Lewis showed that to us :) Matt clocker1996 06-09-2002, 04:37 PM Originally posted by voxtreme-matt Why'd you want Tyson to win? Tyson looked lousy, i was routing for him just because i was a big fan of his during the late 80s & early 90s. I guess you could say he the great figher of my time (i was born in 1978). However lewish is a solid fighter, he fought a strategic fight. Tyson didnt throw any punches, it was beat :( |
