Hello,

I have a questions for all hosts using 2checkout. What kind of customer management + billing system do you use with 2checkout recurring billing ? Product Name? Price? URL?

We had purchased phpmanager.com which is rather cheap, under $50, but we really did not like it. Right now we just have links setup on our site and we manually setup the accounts. Lower fraud rate this way too.

We have our own program that I wrote that basically puts all the customer's info into a database then sends them to 2CheckOut for the payment. I'd rather manually set up the account then have to deal with all the fraud out there.

We use PHPmamager and love it. I can set up accounts with one click. We setup a cron job to send out invoices every month. And our customers like the fact that they can get to CPanel from the help desk. The only problem I have with it is that there is no easy way to add a coupon. But the next build should have it.

clientexec.com - it's, however, still in the beta stage.

Thanks

I've also written my own system. It automatically sets up a customers account, instantly.

Doesn't that increase fraudulent orders?

I built our custom system which is fully integrated into our statistical tracking, affiliate and reseller management system. (I really should package this and sell it at some point...)

We still process orders manually to cut down on fraud, but we do everything in our system except the actual billing. We send people to 2checkout.com for that.

Plus, since people are "in our system" during their visit to our site, we can properly credit affiliates when their referals create sales.

Take care,

Brian

Let say that I have a new customer and I use 2checkout for billing. The customer sends his personal info + credit card details using my signup form - I save all the customer’s details (except CC info) in my database and then send CC for processing to 2checkout. All this is done automatically. If I find 30 min later that this was a fraud order, what am I suppose to do? Can I refund the money to the compromised CC and is there a charge for this?
I don't see why I have to use special software for customer management + billing system. Once I have the customer on recurring billing the billing will be done from 2checkout and any management/billing software I use has nothing to do with it.
I have all my customers' details in my database and I can manage this info easily. The only useful thing of billing/management system is automated invoice sending, but I can do this with short script :D.
Am I right, am I missing something here?

Any help appreciated,
Peter

Yes and no.

Yes - it really can be as simple as you suggest. You just need to capture some basic information about the user on a form from your site. Then you would send them to the appropriate link on 2checkout.com. But...

No, you cannot pre-populate information for a user in 2Checkout.com. They need to do the payment process completely on their own. Legally, you cannot fill out the payment form for them - since you don't have legal authority as an "authorized" card holder.

In addition, you will want to be able to capture additional information after the sale is made. For instance, the 2checkout.com order number. This way you can cross reference orders in your database with orders at 2checkout.com.

Take care,

Brian

Thanks for the answer bteeter,

We still process orders manually to cut down on fraud,

What does this mean? You create the hosting accounts manually or you check customer’s details manually after the order goes trough 2checkout billing system or something else?
Do you send the CC info directly to the 2checkout processing scripts or you keep it in your database and send it for processing later?
What information does 2checkout processing script return after successful order, only the order ID or something more?

Thanks again,
Peter

how do 2checkout users process customer orders?
after customer has made his payment, do you automatically redirect him to a script that would instantly set up his account?

Here's our process in a nutshell:

1) User visits our site

2) User decides on a plan and clicks the "Place Order" button for the plan

3) They are taken to an order page where we collect some details from them like name, domain name, etc.

4) User submits this form, and we save their information in our database and mark the new order as "PENDING".

5) We redirect them to the appropriate 2checkout.com URL which is stored in the database with the hosting plan information

6) User completes the payment process at 2checkout.com

7) We get mail from 2checkout.com informing us of the order. If 2checkout.com flags it as a high risk order, or we notice some strange items in the order info (like a credit card from an address in california, placing an order from an IP address in Indonesia), we sit on the order and request 2checkout.com to investigate.

8) Assuming the order is good (from step 7), we then manually create the account. We put the 2checkout.com order number and the new account information into our system, click a button and presto, they are automatically sent a customized welcome mail, the sale is recorded as "COMPLETED" and we're all done.

As you can see, we don't do automatic setups. Being that about 10 - 20% of our orders are fraudulent - we don't think it wise to instantly setup customer accounts.

Hope this helps,

Brian

if 2checkout has an IPN system, would anyone use it?

I appreciate your help bteeter :)
Last question I promise:

If I decide that particular order is fraud, what am I suppose to do? Can I refund the money to the compromised CC and is there a charge for this?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi there,

I have been using 2co for awhile and no I have never been charged anything for fraud - basically the money you receive from sales takes awhile to be approved to your account for withdrawl and generally fraudulent transactions are caught quickly.

The main thing you need to watch out for are chargebacks - they are a real bitch when you are selling digital goods becuase there is no way that you can proove that the buyer received/downloaded the goods and believe me, you will never win a chargeback case for digital goods unless you are very lucky!

note: chargeback is when a customer disputes the transaction - ie tell there cc company that they didn't receive the goods...
