Apologies in advance for being a total rookie @ this, but...

I currently have a reseller account to host about a dozen personal sites. I have a few friends/acquaintances who would like to purchase hosting from me, and I've never set anything up to do this.

I guess I will need billing software and something to accept payments.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to get started and what software to use?

Thanks a bunch!

Some of the most popular are ModernBill, Client Exec, Lpanel, AWBS, and WHMAP.

If you are looking for a cheap solution that is easy to integrate I would reccomend Client Exec www.clientexec.com. They are the cheapest out of the above mentioned wth there leased license running at $15.95 per month.

I believe ModernBill is actually the most feature rich program out there. However, it also takes a lot more time to get it customized correctly to integrate with your website.

Hope that helps a little.....

If your not running a Hosting business and only doing it for friends and what not you can just use Paypal invoice/subscription to have recurring payments and then just send the link to your friends to pay but if you want to run a hosting business either go with modernbill, whmap, whmcs or awbs

Agree with y1host. If it's a simple hosting for you and your friends, just don't spend your bucks in a nice, expensive and complete billing software.

For this you can use for free PHPcoin (http://www.phpcoin.com). It's really nice and has several options. Give it a try.

I'd recommend WHMCS, it has great features for a small price of $13.95/month (unless you decide to buy from a reseller)

If you're not familiar with anything, go with Clientexec.. it's the easiest to use and the most simplest IMO.

try AccountLab plus from Netenberg its ciomes with fantastico or myou can download it off there site but you will need a licence key to active the product.

the licence is $45 and that is for unlimited domains for an unlimited period.

I personally went with CE and i've loved every minute of it although i havent been able to try out any of the other pieces of software out there. I would suggest going for paypal subscriptions/payments as Y1host said.

I have to correct Mxweb. The license for ALP is 45$ for the FIRST year, NOT for an unlimited period, 15$ each year thereafter (less than 4$ / 1.3$ monthly).

I vote for Clientexec too. That's the most friendly billing software around.

Another vote here for ClientExec for your purposes. Very straightforward and easy to use, has all the basic features.

Okay.. time to suggest a $9.95/mon solution. No, it's not the 100% full product, but Ubersmith (www.ubersmith.com) is very nice.

Also have Whois.Cart() as other alternative.
