View Full Version : GoDaddy.com or Namecheap.com?
That Guy 08-18-2006, 02:50 PM I'm having problems choosing. Namecheap is 7 cents cheaper (just thought I'd throw that in) and I like their control panel better. They also allow up to 50 sub-domains and full DNS control. However, I don't like how you have to add funds to your account. GoDaddy also claims they provide full DNS, but I don't see anywhere on their site if they give any sub-domains. Anyone have any experiences with either they'd like to share (and if you've been with GoDaddy, do they provide sub domains)? Thanks!
Stan Marsh 08-18-2006, 03:25 PM The question by itself is kinda strange... Read both ToS and decide for yourself.
Hint: it's a common knowledge (copyright Stan Marsh of South Park, Colorado) that GoDaddy's ToS are the most humilating in the industry.
i'd say namecheap - i think you've already decided when you say you like their control panel better. it isn't just better, its much much better! i find it alot easiler to use then godaddy. You also don't have to add funds to your account - you can use your creditcard instead when you buy a domain name. Although i could be wrong about that because i like that feature and am always using it :P
(i have 20+ domains at namecheap.. and only 5/6 left at godaddy)
uberhostNET 08-18-2006, 04:19 PM Namecheap by a mile!
That Guy 08-18-2006, 04:22 PM Ok, thanks guys! :>
Bashar 08-18-2006, 07:08 PM there is no best registrar, there is the best registrar for YOU :)
steventay 08-18-2006, 10:05 PM namecheap.....
for me is still enom....
why go for namecheap as it is a reseller of enom...
fewcoin 08-18-2006, 10:37 PM I have domains at both Godaddy and Namecheap. Recently I had a bad experience with Godaddy. I put in for a transfer of 6 domains and they all failed. They said I changed the contacts recently and the 60 day rule is in effect. This is totally false, I hadn't touched the domains in 11 months. They proceeded to lock the domains. (something different than the registrar lock, I can't manage the domains)
I then asked them for a refund and they said they will ask but can't guarantee I'll get the transfer fees back.
I now have serious doubts about Godaddy and think I should move all the domains away from them before anything more happens.

That Guy 08-18-2006, 10:53 PM Oh, I didn't know that namecheap was a reseller of enom...
MikeWalczak 08-18-2006, 11:01 PM I have had about 20 domain names with Namecheap and maybe 2 with GoDaddy. I love namecheap, its awesome. Even though its the a reseller, it has given me everythin I need and more. The and support is grand.
uberhostNET 08-19-2006, 02:07 AM why go for namecheap as it is a reseller of enom...
Some people get a lower price and better service using namecheap--even though namecheap is an enom reseller--simply because they are doing a low volume in domain names.
That Guy 08-19-2006, 03:38 AM Thanks for the info. :>
picanha 08-20-2006, 11:31 PM Thanks for this forum and the info posted here. It helped me as well.
I registered my first domain with and put my first site on StartLogic and I have had no problems.
However since then I have been thinking that I would prefer to register domains with one company and host the sites on a different company so I can move the site if necessary. This way I think that my sites can not be held hostage.
I'm planning site #2 now and I registered the domain with namecheap. I plan to put the site on StartLogic and I just need to figure out how to get the domain aimed at the site. Hopefully setting up the email will not be too complicated. I'm not asking for help yet, just saying thanks for previous help. Feel free to comment , should you wish to....
Thanks,
Bob

All you do is go into Namecheap's control panel and change the nameservers to that of your host.
It's generally the best to keep the domain reg and webhost different. You can transfer after 60 days without any downtime.

LayeredZoneHosting 08-20-2006, 11:54 PM I would go with NameCheap since their Push system is WAYYY better.
