Do not submit sites at all get links on good pr sites and wait. To me the worst mistake you can make it submit your site to directories just let it happen naturally.

Why is that the worst mistake you could make? I'm not questioning your statement I'm actually wondering why, because I know nothing about SEO...

Well for one if you do not submit your site will be found naturally which is way better. If you submit you lock yourself into a title a description and so fourth on the internet. Also if you submit it could take anywhere from a week to 8 week if you ever get accepted. If some high PR Google sites link to you you’re talking about days to a week. Example I submitted a site like 6 months ago guess what not in Google yet. However I waited till I had a Google pr setup 2 new sites add there links on my Google pr ranked site and bam like 1 week I was included in Google. So all in all do not submit in my opinion just get good back links let the spiders do there job. Again this is my opinion but from doing sites it looks best to not submit to me.

Also, check out www.seochat.com - They have lots of SEO tools (keyword density, help on setting everything up, tips, checking pagerank, etc, etc, etc...) - It can't help to run some tests on your site to see how well it's setup.

Don't Submit? thats gotta be the stupidest idea I've ever heard. If you dont know what Title Description you want your site to be represented by then perhaps the least of your problems will be traffic. If you build a site, build a simple XML sitemap and deliver it right to googles door step, you will be on google in less than 2 weeks.

Don't submit is perfectly sane - search engines will follow natural links, though Google is being real prissy about them at present.
If you really want information on SEO then Rand's guide is pretty comprehenisve:

But overall I would never recommend you put your faith in SEO for software, anymore than I'd recommend you use Quickbooks instead of an accountant. :)
