I have been a customer of Ipower since 2005 and the customer service is really bad.. everytime you have a problem they transfer you to every department they have.. Sales, tech, billing, and every department transfers you to another one.. they are not trained to solve silly matters such as resend a welcome email..

This last domain i bought took more than 3 days to reach my inbox and because i have been contacting them all that 3 days.. if not i would be still waiting for it.

See you.

Yep, it was easier to put up with at $2.95 per domain than $6.50, but still, that's a rockin' price when you consider it includes whois privacy.

Yes its a really cheap price considering that they do not offer any customer support.

i bought one there to save a couple of bucks, and have found the experience not worthy of the couple of bucks saved. since them, i buy elsewhere for a bit more than 2.95 which is nothing anyway.

Whichever company he/she uses is only 'a bit more than 2.95' and therefore is NOT recommended.

Please be advised that ANY company charging you less than $6.25 per .com (that is the price registrar pays for the registry and ICANN) is doing that for a loss, with all consequences (lack of support, shaky systems, etc.).

You've been warned!

i'm currently in europe so i use a european one, dunno if it would suit you. ovh.com
they charge a bit less than 7 euros for a .com

i do believe that the 4$ difference between ipower and whichever other registar is not worth the hassle to manage to do what you want with your domain unless maybe you plan to host it at ipower.

As far as I know WhoIS privacy comes from the local domain authority IE Nominet. In the UK if you arn't a business customer you can hide your details from your WhoIS lookup.

For .uk domains - yes (well, not completely. There's no such thing as whois privacy for .uk domains as we understand it for gTLDs). But we're speaking about gTLDs here, right?

Ouch.

Well, I can't defend iPowerweb because I've never tried getting any service from them. As for having to wait several days for a welcome email on a domain purchase, yes, I've experienced that and it sucks. After hearing about bad iPower service experiences and positive experiences at namecheap.com (http://www.namecheap.com/), I'll probably start registering domains at namecheap for the couple of extra bucks. Hopefully they'll keep offering WhoisGuard for free.

@Stan Marsh: Yes, you're right, this is about gTLDs since the thread is concerning iPowerweb.

This is NOT waiting for the welcome email, but for the domain being registered. As far as I understand, IPower are registering them manually and therefore this is taking way more time than automated systems other registrars are using.

I don't even want to speak about importance of quick registration in today's world when often even part of the second is important...

Hopefully they'll keep offering WhoisGuard for free.

WhoisGuard is free for the first year only at NameCheap. But renewals aren't such expensive. Infact, they are one of the cheapest around for this feature.

NameCheap is definitely a *way* better choice than IPower.

Well, enjoy your cheap registrations if you can.
Some of us have common names with lots of competion.
I pay $90/yr for my .io domain, plus $8/yr for the privacy feature.

I also had issues once when I tried to transfer a couple of names to ipower early this year, boy did I learn a big lesson. Never ever transfer domians to a cheap register. They kept answering my emails with things like we are ipower, you will need to contact ipowerweb etc ... I would get the same answer from ipowerweb that i would need to contact ipower ... i think they were just having a joke amoungst the staff to see who could annoy a customer the most... I even wrote to threaten to sue them etc as it was driving me mad, i wrote to the marketing manager and let them know what i thought of their deploarable service and told them they should be illegel, banned and I was thinking of taking them to court bla bla bla.....

yeah they were quick to get back to me and I finally herd from someone who sorted the mess out. The funny thing is that I was an affiliate partner but I closed my affiliation, my commisions were taken back and I lost more by doing that but I wanted to make it clear that I thought their business sucked....

I have to admit I did purchase one more domain from them 2 weeks ago at the cheap price. Buying a domain from them is ok from my experince but just don't do something stupid like i did and transfer to them. I'm just glad the transfer never happened. :peace:
