Unfortunately there hasn't been a 3 letter .net available in a long time. The only way is to purchase one already registered.

That would be a NLL.org, not three letters. What you're talking about is three characters.

3-characters are still free. 3-letters aint, and the 4-letters are running out.

You have to search the aftermarket, Sedo and Afternic, and the domain auction houses, SnapNames/NameWinner/ClubDrop/TDNAM, or possibly look on the domain name forum sites, DNForum/NamePros. I think you take them too literally. In the tricky business of valuations, value is in the eye of the beholder. They are quoting only the Minimum Wholesale Price, ie for domains with QXYZ in them. Premium letters go for more. You can always sell for more to the end user, and you will always find exceptions. It is only a guide, after all.
