I have a client that uses private registration and also has an SSL certificate for the web site. One of the person search firms has identified my client as owning the web site despite the private registration. It isn't clear how the information was obtained but I was wondering if the SSL certificate registration information can somehow be accessed to determine who owns the web site. Anyone know who can access the SSL certificate registration information? That is, information not on the certificate itself.

of course anyone can read the company/person information from the SSL registration information by double clicking on the yellow lock on the browser usually

where is the domain registered anyway?

Not true. You see the company that the SSL certificate is issued to but not the person at the company. There's no info publicly available that indicates who owns the company.

The certificate is registered at usertrust.com. Not sure why this matters.

I think Bashar asked where the *domain* is registered. And this *does* matter.

Thank you.

The domain is identitychecksolutions.com. Their domain registrar is Wild West Domains, Inc. , wildwestdomains.com. The web site is under construction...i.e. there's nothing to actually see right now.

I have lots of questions....:
1) Stan: why does the registrar matter?
2) Bashar: Can you tell me who owns the company from the info I've provided and how do you find the owner info?

1) Stan: why does the registrar matter?

Because different registrars have different disclosure policies.

In your case, read WWD policies under what conditions and to whom WWD will release registrant's information.
