I've just been cleaning up my email inbox and creating some filters screening all the GoDaddy email notifications for expiring domains. Gee. How anybody could let a domain expire at GoDaddy is beyond my comprehension. Here is a list of notices you receive...

To the Registrant email address:
90-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
60-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
30-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
15-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
5-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
(maybe the other two mentioned below... haven't got there yet) :)

To the Account email address:
90-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
60-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
30-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
15-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
Item Expiration Notice (at about 7 days)
5-Day Certified GoDaddy.com Expiration Notice
Last Chance To Renew (individual domains at about 5 days)

Interestingly, they don't send you an email when a domain actually expires :)

With more than 100 expirations every month, that's a lot of emails :( ... and a lot of cash :(

Of course, I could auto-renew ;)

Are the notices from @godaddy.com or from a different domain?

I've just deleted a whole bunch of them, but the ones I have left are all from renewals@godaddy.com.

keeping 1 client is 20 times cheaper than getting 1 new client ;)

I've suggested to them that they should also send an email when the domain expires and also when it's removed from the account (entered RGP). We shall see. Perhaps they regard the client "beyond redemption" when the domain expires ;)

Go Daddy and Namecheap are the most diligent in trying to hold peoples' hands when it comes to notifications.

For someone like me, with over 200 domains, I keep a spreadsheet, and sort it by month, renewing all the following month's renewals then.

as a side note for keeping clients, i was surprised yesterday to get a personalized email from dotster for transfering a domain out and asking to keep you with em

Quite a lot of registrars are doing that these days. Even NetSol.

Why 'even'? Getting $35 per domain should involve even few personal telephone calls, imo... :)

Unfortunately registrars aren't required to call the registrant and/or contacts when
the domain name/s are coming up for renewal. But netsol at least sends email and
postal renewal notices, and they send one last email (I think) when the domain
name has already expired.

From what you stated, stu, Go Daddy doesn't send out postal renewal notices? I
won't be surprised if they don't, although it's a nice thing if they do.

Bashar was mentioning a personalized email, not phonecalls or snailmail. The only registrar that has ever called me was GoDaddy. I had a nice conversation with my account representative :)
