Hi,

I'm trying to get a domain which expires on 20th Aug. I checked the WHOIS record for that domain at whois.sc and it shows

REGISTRAR-LOCK

REGISTRAR-LOCK: The sponsoring registrar sets this status. The domain can not be modified or deleted. The registrar must remove REGISTRAR-LOCK status to modify the domain. The domain can be renewed. The domain will be included in the zone.

This is currently in name of NAME.NET . What does this lock mean ?

If it isn't renewed and it expires on 20th, then also will it not get deleted ?

Please tell me what is the way I can get this domain. Also, if you know, pl. let me know a few cheap and reliable domain backordering services as well.

Thanks

The lock means just as it says above. The domain cannot be modified or transferred to someone else unless the "lock" is temporarily removed.

If it expires on the 20th, it will -eventually- be deleted and released back to the public... maybe.

Of course, that could take months and if it's a desired domain name then you're competing with all kinds of people and 3rd party services that will grab the domain the second it becomes available.

name.net domains are snapped via snapnames.com before expiration date

https://www.snapnames.com/preferred_info.jsp

search at snapnames.com and backorder it if you REALLY want it, as there would be huge chance it might be snapped before dropping

Thanks everybody for your help.

But , since its still locked, does it mean it wont be available on 20th ?

if I backorder it with, wilL I still not get it ?

Does snapnames offer a refund if they can't get it ?

And yes I REALLY want it, and its not a very common domain or a domain everyone would look for..

it will need togo into domain life cycle and then drops

aprox. 70-90 days after expiration date

If it's rare, it might be worth more ;) Take Bashar's advice and backorder it at SnapNames.

Hi,

I registered at snapnames and placed an order.

Now, support tells me that domain will be deleted about 2 months after expiration (i.e. grace period etc) and then only will they register it.

Now, will the lock be removed automatically by verisign once it expires ? or how does it work ?

Is there any other good service like this which would refund money if they can't get domain ? I dont want to take a chance

Thanks again

Who's support told you it would be deleted about 2 months after expiration? If name.net use SnapNames for their preferred auction partner, it will be auctioned off at SnapNames before it gets deleted. If for some strange reason this domain isn't going thu the SnapNames auction process, you should also place backorders at the dropcatchers, Pool and NameWinner.
