About me: I know the front end stuff pretty well (HTML, graphics, javacript, some CGI, etc.), have worked with MS Access and Filemaker DBs, know the basics of the command line in Unix, am learning Linux, php, and mySql.

Have an idea for a content site that will consist of a series of static pages and include a database for some user input (message board at least) and some db-driven pages based on search criteria. No heavy graphics or images, maybe need to serve some larger files eventually, but not immediatley. I've registered a domain name.

So I guess the question is where to host something like this to get started. I imagine the site will be built slowly in my spare time, but I'd like to be able to host it somewhere that allows it to grow into a large, db-driven content site. So, to summarize, i need a decent but not outlandish amount of space, performance (page speed) and reliability are important, Linux, php, mysql, good support for newbie.

Sorry for the long first post. Thanks!

I would recommend starting with a small account then upgrading if/ when you have to, thus saving you money. Any good host will allow you to do this. Maybe try posting this in the "Web Hosting Request" forum.
