I was planning on moving my webhosting to a 4webspace RaQ4r next week, but now they are no longer offering them :-(

I am looking for a similarly priced dedicated hosting package (a reliable one, no cobaltracks.com thank you very much) It doesn't need to be a RaQ necessarily. But the price should be under $300 per month with a good amount of bandwidth (30GB minimum)

I was wondering what the performance difference is between a RaQ3 and a RaQ4. (I know the hard drive is smaller, no RAID and no Chilisoft, Interbase software included) but what about actual performance on a RaQ3 vs. a RaQ4???

I could get 2 RaQ3s for the same price as I could have gotten the RaQ4 at 4webspace. If I load on the same software, same RAM and just put half the amount of sites on each server, will it perform the same as a RaQ4?

Can a large site be split over 2 or 3 RaQ3s?

Any advice? Any other suggestions?

TIA
Maxine

First, the raq3 has a 300 mhz processor and the raq4 has 450 mhz.

The raq4 comes with php4, chilisoft and mysql installed but you can install all this on a raq3 (by yourself). there are post in this forum on how to do this.

Then, in my opinion, 50 sites in a raq3 with x ram will run faster than 100 sites in a raq4 with the same ram.

You may also get a linux PIII with that money :)

Getting two RaQ3's should be fine. It isn't as if you would be going from a 300Mhz machine to a Dual PIII900 or anything. There are a few things about the 4 I really like better. Nothing that can't be accomplished with the 3 though.
