Time Warner recently swallowed Adelphia and the merger/transition began on August 3rd. Eventually, TW plans on changing email addresses to twcable.net (in 6 months to a year). My own domain would be ideal with this uncertainty (gmail would a secondary option). So I decided to see if my old domain from a couple years ago was still available and it was not. It was bought by a domain name aggregator, which left me infuriated. Buydomain.com grabbed my domain shortly after it expired. After performing the whois, they will retain it until July 2007. Unfortunately, the scenario is partly my fault since I did not renew the domain.
I have a couple curiosities regarding my next step. Obviously, I could choose a different name, which may entail a .net. The site would serve as a personal marketing site/email. It will be professional, yet will not require a dedicated server with millions of hits and ecommerce.
Please let me know if you know anything about buydomain.com. How much would they charge me for buying back my domain? How reliable is a service such as Snapback? I spent considerable time selecting the name and would love to get it again. But it is not a great name like ebay or amazon. I am just hoping that someone will share their insights with me on this topic.
