not sure to understand your question. If they have their own domain names, you just give them your dns, to ask them updating, then they can use your hosting

Do you mean for a temporary address until the domain resolves? If so then use the IP.

Isnt' really practical to offer all of your clients dedicated IPs anyway.

Alright, say if a client buys a package, do I offer them a IP address so they can push the DNS to the domain name?. I only have 5 IP addresses, it costs an extra $2 a month to get more. So I don't want to waste them.

Can they also change the DNS with a sub domain? will it work the same way?

No conflict but IPs aren't free and aren't required for sites that do not need SSL.

So how am I going to set an account up without giving them anything like a DNS?

A normal hosting account will just use your DNS. Resellers might need IPs for their DNS but normal hosting clients would normally just use ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com

Hi Justin.

Sorry for the little confusement there, yes I was talking about a 'rea-seller' account. So all rea-seller should have a I.P address?

And yes, a single account will use our subdomain. ;)

Isnt' really practical to offer all of your clients dedicated IPs anyway. There are hosts that don't feel that way. :)

NashTax, if I understand your situation right, all you need to do is to create your own private nameservers (like ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com) then ask your customers to point their domains to those nameservers (which I believe you referred to as sub domains). At every step of the way, your provider should be able to help you out, with action or advice. ;)

If they point there name servers to my account, how can the DNS pick up what username / URL they want to use?

How it works is the following :

1) You signup as a reseller with a provider.

2) That provider hands you 2 IP addresses after signup

3) You go to the registrar of your hosting company domain name

4) Under "create nameserver" or "manage child nameservers", input the following:

- ns1.yourdomain.com - Enter first IP address provided
- ns2.yourdomain.com - Enter the second IP provided.

You can replace the "ns1/ns2" parts (AND ONLY THOSE PARTS, not the yourdomain.com) by anything you want. Think of it as "variable.yourdomain.com"

4) Tell your host to add the A entries for the nameservers you chose and their corresponding IPs.

5) Tell your clients to set ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com as their nameservers.

Everything works.

If something doesn't work at any stage of this process, contact your host or just post here, and we'll try to help as much as possible.

I'll be on a dedicated server. Not my rea-seller account. I'll be making new rea-seller accounts on this dedicated server I have. :)
